Qualifications:

  • Is at least 21 years of age.
  • Has a current certification from the Camp Management Section of Scouting America National Camping School.
  • Is familiar with and will follow the policies on camping set by the National Council, the Natural State Council, and the State of Arkansas.
  • Is a person of good health and be able to bear the mental strain of this position.
  • Has business sense, sound judgement, an enthusiastic attitude, and unquestioned honesty.
  • Has knowledge of Scout-type camping as practiced in the Natural State Council.
  • Is First Aid/C.P.R./AED certified.
  • Is a registered member of Scouting America.
  • Practices the Scout Oath and Law as a way of life.
     

Responsibilities:

  • Report directly to the Camp Director.
  • Follow and maintain the policies of the Natural State Council, Scouting America, and local, state, and federal laws.
  • Assist the Camp Director in the supervision of camp wide and evening programs, activities, and troops,
  • Recruit, interview, hire, train, and supervise the best staff for camp with the Camp Director.
  • Responsible for the management and operation of the camp with the Camp Director.
  • Responsible for the vice-chairman role of all camp staff meetings 
  • Ensure the complete cooperation of all staff in serving the needs of the troops.
  • Be a friendly counselor, with the responsibility and authority for clearly interpreting the policies and practices of the camp.
  • Carry out the policies and standards for camping as established by the State of Arkansas, National Scouting America, and Natural State Council, with the Camp Director..
  • Ensure that the basic Scouting program is provided and that campers have significant experiences in typical Scouting activities.
  • Deal skillfully with parents and other visitors.
  • Measure the use of Program Areas, evaluate all directors, and improve upon effectiveness of these sections.
  • Meet with the Camp Director, Camp Commissioner and Area Directors daily.
  • Supervise all Specialty Treks, and the camp in the absence of the Camp Director.
  • Provide a list of program needs for the following season and a basis for improvement of next year’s program with a written report of recommendations.
  • Support ROTC, Cub Scout Resident Camp, NYLT and any other programs Natural Council schedules as part of the Camp Orr Summer Camp schedule.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Camp Director and Scout Executive.
  • Promote and maintain a positive and fun, safety-conscious attitude in all aspects of our camp atmosphere and ensure that all staff work as a team to accomplish the mission and vision of Camp Orr, Natural State Council, Scouting America.
