Advocacy Intern
The League of Credit Unions & Affiliates (The League) is seeking an Advocacy Intern. Ideal candidates will be versatile, eager to learn, and highly organized. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential, along with being punctual, self-directed, responsible, and respectful.
This internship, which begins in late May or early June and will assist The League's advocacy team with political and legislative engagement initiatives taking place throughout the summer, will provide you the opportunity to gain valuable governmental and political advocacy experience.
With a footprint of over 16 million credit union members, legislative action in Atlanta, Montgomery, Richmond, Tallahassee, and Washington D.C. can impact credit union members across the nation. This internship will provide exposure to the workings of state and federal advocacy and political engagement as well as practical experience working within diverse multi-state political landscapes. Throughout the internship, there will be opportunities to innovate, problem-solve, and develop sought-after skills.
As an Advocacy Intern, you will:
- Assist lobbyists with planning and scheduling political events and fundraisers.
- Take quarterly Advocacy Committee meeting minutes.
- Work with the advocacy team to implement grassroots and PAC initiatives.
- Provide support for advocacy portions of the ENGAGE conference.
- Work with the regulatory team and state lobbyists to organize, plan, and implement state regulatory roundtables.
- Become familiar with and utilize Salesforce.
- Suggest and assist with content creation.
- Attend at least two events in your state of residence.
- Gain a broad understanding of the credit union industry, The League's mission and value proposition, and build industry connections.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in business, political science, communications, or a related field OR 1-2 years of relevant experience.
- Sophomore, junior or senior standing with a 3.25 Cumulative GPA.
- Experience developing, implementing, and managing projects independently and within a team.
- Broad knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook, as well as Adobe products.
It is encouraged that applicants initiate conversations with their academic advisors to determine how this program could be eligible for full or partial academic credit.
Work Schedule:
This is a mostly remote internship with flexibility for bi-weekly in office work and some travel based on student availability and organizational needs. Travel may be required in your state of residence. A valid driver's license is mandatory.
