Real Estate Accountant

The Dermot Company, a New York and Florida-based real estate developer and operator, is seeking a full-time Real Estate Accountant. Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the accountant will be responsible for all aspects of accounting for an assigned portfolio of 3-6 luxury multifamily assets. 

 

This is a hybrid position.

ABOUT THIS ROLE

  • Receive training, mentorship and guidance from senior members of the accounting team and have opportunities to interact and contribute with members of the other (Operational and Investment) departments
  • Complete monthly financial procedures for an assigned portfolio of Dermot properties, including bank reconciliations, prepare accrual & prepaid schedules & other balance sheet accounts and schedules, prepare income to budget variance analysis, explain financial results and accounting needs and concepts to non-accountants, prepare reporting packages
  • Oversee and maintain assigned properties’ books on an ongoing basis working alongside onsite teams; review and approve invoice registers, make timely debt payments, and maintain accurate resident reports/schedules
  • Prepare quarterly and annual financial reporting to fulfill and maintain loan compliance requirements
  • Assist with operational budgeting, cash forecasting and analysis
  • Collaborate cross-functionally; provide guidance and support to onsite property managers, AP/AR, and Investment Teams on financial reporting matters
  • Assist with audits and tax return filing processes by producing accurate financial records and be a resource for internal and external stakeholders
  • Suggest and implement improvements to current accounting and finance processes and procedures
  • Understand GAAP principles and accounting in the real estate industry
  • Manage ad hoc projects as needed

 

ABOUT YOU AND WHAT YOU OFFER

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field
  • 0-2 years of relevant accounting experience preferred
  • Some knowledge/exposure of the real estate industry
  • Knowledge of GAAP principles
  • Proficiency in general accounting and budgeting and cash flow concepts
  • Interest in a preparation role, handling bank reconciliations and detailed matters
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, collaboration, presentation, and organization skills
  • A strong professional work ethic and commitment to meet deadlines
  • Displayed successful career development during college (a relevant internship or employment)
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States for any employer without restrictions

The annualized gross compensation range for this position is $65,000-80,000 plus a performance-based bonus incentive. The actual compensation within the range will be based on factors unique to each candidate including geographic location, years and depth of experience.
