Position Title: Communications/Marketing Intern
Start Date: Mid-May (dates flexible)
Background:
MCCOY Inc. is the nonprofit youth services intermediary organization for Indianapolis and Marion County with a 30-year history of championing the positive development of youth through community and systems change. We serve as a gateway, capacity builder, advocate, connector, and champion of youth engagement and empowerment. Our work is focused on building a community where all youth have equitable access to the supports and opportunities they need to learn, grow, and thrive.
Position Summary:
The Communications/Marketing Intern will focus on compiling and editing information for resources throughout Central Indiana as part of our Youth Activity Directory and Summer Youth Programs. The position will work with the Director of Marketing and Communications on asset management, database building, and other assorted communications and marketing projects.
This position requires collaboration with internal MCCOY staff, communication/scheduling with leaders of youth programs, interaction with young people of all ages, and engaging with youth organizations and the public through interaction on social media. Training will be provided.
Position Reports to: Director of Marketing and Communications
Ideal Start Date Range: Ideal start day would be during the week of May 12, but can be flexible around schedule. End date will be early- to mid-August.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop database of Central Indiana organizations that provide resources to youth, families, and those who serve them.
- Communicate with youth-serving organizations around Indianapolis and Marion County.
- Work with Director of Marketing and Communications to share resource information through web-based platforms.
- Review, collect, and identify and label marketing assets.
- Research and share facts on social media about the benefits of summer programming/enrichment programs for youth.
- Promote youth programs at community events by distributing materials and engaging families in conversation/activities around topics relevant to young people.
- Attend and support youth program assessments and share photos of the assessment process.
- Develop content for Summer Youth Program newsletters.
- Collect story/picture submissions from youth programs and schedule them to be posted on social media via Hootsuite (we will train you to use Hootsuite!).
- Plan and film brief interview testimonials with staff, participants, families.
- Write blog posts and conduct social media content highlight exciting programs for young people.
- Share content from partners and post interactive questions to social channels.
- Occasional weekend/evening work at community events.
Qualifications:
- Marion County resident aged 18 – 22
- Ability to work remotely
- Familiarity and understanding of Excel and Sharepoint.
- Ability to work independently and manage your own schedule.
- Strong written communication skills, including ability to tailor a message to social media audiences on various platforms.
- Ability to converse with diverse groups of children and adults easily.
- Interest in working in Wordpress (training provided if needed)
- Interest in designing social media graphics (training provided if needed)
- Must have access to transportation to attend site visits and community events.
Compensation:
This part-time position will require approximately 20 hours of work per week. The internship start and end date will be determined in consultation with the Director. Exact work schedule will vary. Work will be hybrid. Intern will be paid at a rate of $17.50 – $20/ hour, based on experience.
