Seasonal Mosquito Control Technician
DEFINITION
Under supervision by the Field Operations Supervisor, the Seasonal Mosquito Control Technician conducts a planned program of mosquito detection and abatement in an assigned zone, assists support staff, and does related work as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm
Dates: May/June through October/ November (season estimated to last approximately 1,000 hours or six months from your starting date).
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Drives a government vehicle to sites throughout Alameda County to treat catch basins for mosquito breeding;
Interacts with community members in Alameda County;
Assists field staff with mosquito control treatments;
Follows District safety procedures and other regulatory requirements when using District equipment;
Performs, occasionally, other tasks or functions not stated in this description, but within the scope of experience and capability; and
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE (OR WILLINGNESS TO LEARN)
Methods of identification, biology, ecology, and public health importance of mosquitoes present in Alameda County; and
Field equipment used to control mosquito abundance.
ABILITIES
Speak, write, and understand English clearly in order to communicate with the public;
Perform moderate physical labor;
Prepare, organize, and maintain accurate records; and
Cooperate with other agencies, officials, employees, and the public.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Equivalent to graduation from high school and college level lab course(s) in the biological sciences is highly preferred.
18 Years of age or over.
Must have a valid California Driver's license, with a good driving record and be insurable with the District's Insurance carrier.
Ability to pass a job-related pre-employment physical ability test.
