Forensic Case Manager (FCM) will provide case management services for assigned clients to include review and determination of client needs. Provide case management and perform a variety of professional and technical duties in support of assigned areas. Conducts initial interviews with client. Assist in determination of proper therapeutic approaches and referral through coordination with staff which include licensed clinical social workers, victim liaisons and law enforcement officers. Provide support to community members in need of assistance related to inebriation, homelessness, addiction and mental health as well as support to families in various forms of resource crisis. FCM will also review and assess criminal cases and provide service to crime victims and will be able to respond to active crime scenes when necessary for families in crisis at the time of event.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Obtain information about client through interview and/or case history to determine the client’s case management needs. Review and assess violent crime reports associated with homicide, interpersonal violence, child abuse, sexual assault and domestic violence/stalking.
2. Make contact with victims of violent crimes, provide information regarding legal process, resources and the investigation process. Assist clients in filling out and filing protective orders; attend protective order hearing and other court proceedings with clients.
3. Work in conjunction with community agencies and assist client in scheduling with programs and other connections to care.
4. Assist in the reliability and validity of treatment and services for clients; determine needs and appropriate referrals including behavioral health, domestic violence, medical and legal assistance and/or requirements as needed.
5. Provide client with services which may include collaboration with families, criminal justice entities and community resources.
6. Transport clients (or assist in transportation efforts) to appointments and other service providers in the community.
7. Responsible for the timely and accurate documentation and reporting of case management processes; maintain case notes and associated documentation.
8. Prepare case files for periodic review and quality assurance.
9. Perform department program related duties in residential, community and jail-based settings.
10. Initiate the referral of support services as needed such as medical and psychological evaluation and treatment.
11. Serve as a liaison between the hospitals, community courts, outreach and criminal justice agencies.
12. Provide liaison and coordination between the Sheriff’s Office and prosecuting agencies such as Bernalillo County District Attorney’s Office, Attorney General’s Office for victim services, mental health professions, rape crisis centers and case follow-up.
13. Attend and participate in professional group meetings and stay abreast of current practices and new trends relative to position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in related field, or related job experience totaling four (4) years in criminal justice, psychology, social work, counseling, case management or related field. Any equivalent combination or related education and/or experience may be considered for the above requirements.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

The offer of this Bernalillo County position requires compliance with the following:

1. Employee must successfully complete post-offer employment medical examination and background investigation.
2. Employee must comply with the safety guidelines of the County.
3. Employee must complete required FEMA training(s) as assigned to position.
4. Employee must complete required Supervisor classes if applicable.
5. Employee must have a valid New Mexico driver's license by employment date and maintain a valid NM driver's license while employed in this position.
6. All positions may be required to work various shifts and scheduled per department needs.
7. Employee must pass and attend required trainings as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS

1. Duties are performed primarily indoors.
2. Indoor duties are performed in a temperature-controlled environment.
3. Work hazards or potential work hazards include working in the field in possible adverse weather conditions, stressful situations involving individuals in crisis, and more unknown circumstances. Overall physical demands should be considered minimal.
4. Fieldwork and home visiting is required on a regular basis.
5. Employee may be required to work a flexible schedule and rotating on-call periods.

EQUIPMENT, TOOLS AND MATERIALS

1. Utilizes computers and communication equipment on a daily basis.
2. Utilizes facility keys, county cars, county laptop, and county cellphone on a frequent basis.
