Nonprofit Development Intern

SOSA Internship: Development Intern

Location: New Haven, CT

About Us: SOSA (Safe from Online Sex Abuse) is a nonprofit that combats online child sex abuse and trafficking through undercover operations with law enforcement, advocacy, and education. 

We partner directly with ICAC (internet crimes against children) detectives and prosecutors to maintain our efficacy and conviction rate.

Our work also includes raising awareness about abuse tactics, training law enforcement, advising on safer legislation, and supporting survivors by connecting them with essential resources.

About This Position: The Development Intern will assist our team with development initiatives, including donor relations, communications, and fundraising as needed. There is a research element to this position. There may also be opportunity for the intern to help with criminal justice tasks like helping to organize evidence from SOSA’s undercover sting operations and other office tasks. This role is ideal for someone who is pursuing a career in psychology, sociology, communications, criminal justice, or a related field and is eager to learn and contribute to our mission.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct donor communications via email and mail
  • Assist with foundation and grant research
  • Assist with grant questionnaires
  • Presentation preparation and organizing 
  • Organize and manage evidence to ensure it is easily accessible and properly documented.
  • Collaborate with development team members to ensure timely completion of tasks
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with the utmost discretion.
  • Provide general administrative and logistical support as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a program in psychology, sociology, communications, criminal justice, or a related field. 
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent research and analytical abilities.
  • Proficient in using online databases and research tools.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Passion for social justice and the mission of our organization.
  • Please note that due to the nature of SOSA's work, a background check and NDA are required.

Hours:

  • 10-15 hours per week, or as required by the internship program.
  • Flexible schedule.
  • This position is in-office only.

Compensation: This is an unpaid internship, but we are happy to sign off on college credits.
