Director of Data Strategy

Position Summary

The Director of Data Strategy supports the development and execution of district-wide strategies and leads the underlying data strategy that accelerates their impact. This role builds robust data systems and practices that enhance cross-functional collaboration and maintains a clear, consistent focus on achieving strategic outcomes. By providing reliable, timely, and actionable insights, the Director empowers school and department leaders to make informed decisions, effectively utilize resources, and foster continuous organizational improvement.

Executive Director of Strategy & Analytics and/or an assigned designee.

Essential Functions

Data Strategy and Analytics Leadership

  1. Strategic Data Leadership: Develops and executes a comprehensive district-wide data strategy aligned with strategic objectives, providing measurable outcomes and clear ROI.
  2. Data Products and Decision Support: Oversees the design, delivery, and communication of intuitive data products (dashboards, reports, analytics) that support informed decision-making, performance monitoring, and effective resource allocation.
  3. Data Governance and Integrity: Maintains rigorous data governance practices for privacy, security, accuracy, and equity, fostering trust and accountability.

Strategic Planning & Continuous Improvement

  1. Strategy Development and Continuous Improvement: Supports the strategic planning and execution process by integrating data-driven insights, setting clear objectives, building effective systems, and rigorously tracking outcomes and resource effectiveness.
  2. Collaborative Leadership and Change Management: Fosters cross-functional collaboration, manage organizational change effectively, and ensure readiness and sustainable adoption of strategic priorities.

Team Development and Talent Growth

  1. Capacity Building Supervision: Cultivates a high-performing team through targeted professional development, clear role definitions, effective coaching, and efficient resource management.
  2. Culture of Learning and Continuous Growth: Fosters a collaborative, learning-focused environment that promotes ongoing professional growth and adaptation to emerging data practices and technologies.

Partnerships, Community, and Equity

  1. Partnerships and Engagement: Strengthens external partnerships and foster community involvement, ensuring transparency and alignment of resources to support equitable outcomes.
  2. Community Voice and Equity: Actively integrates diverse community perspectives to ensure accountability, equity, and transparency in all data-informed initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of

  1. Fundamentals of strategic planning, continuous improvement, and effective change management within large, complex organizations and school systems.
  2. Best practices for using educational data to drive student success through actionable insights, including designing intuitive data products that empower leaders and educators.
  3. Comprehensive approach to data management—from collection and storage to analysis and reporting—using modern principles that balance secure, reliable governance with flexible, innovative use of data analytics to support strategic decisions.
  4. Strategies for effective communication, stakeholder engagement, and community partnership building.

Ability to

  1. Rapidly learn, adapt, and effectively lead within a large, diverse, and complex school district environment.
  2. Support teams and schools to develop, implement, and monitor initiatives in the strategic plan.
  3. Clearly communicate complex insights in practical, understandable terms to diverse internal and external stakeholders.
  4. Foster strong professional relationships and a culture of continuous learning, data-driven decision-making, and collaboration across teams.
  5. Lead, organize and review the work of assigned staff.

  11. Maintain a flexible work schedule if needed for off work hours for completion of projects to meet deadlines and travel to other locations as needed.

Experience, Education, and Training

Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is appropriate. A representative way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

  1. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in the fields of computer science, mathematics, statistics, economics, public policy, business administration, or a related field; or equivalent training in data and/or strategy leadership.
  2. Five (5) or more years of leadership experience in a school, school district, or education-related setting, with a focus on strategy management and/or data analytics.

Work Environment

Climate controlled office setting and exposure to minimal to moderate noise intensity levels. High level of contact with district personnel and the community, including frequent visits to district and non-district locations for meetings and activities.

Physical Requirements

Frequent reaching, handling, talking, and hearing. Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment. Stamina to remain seated and maintain concentration for an extended period and/or to frequently move from sitting position to standing, walking, stooping, and kneeling. Hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.

Vision

Frequent near acuity; occasional far acuity. Vision to read printed materials, computer screens and/or other monitoring devices.

Strength

Sedentary/Light – Exert force to 15 pounds occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects.

Work Calendar

Full Year - 12 months

Salary Level

Placement on the Supervisor/Administrator Salary Schedule, Grade 211A.

Evaluation

The performance of this position will be evaluated according to the district process for the evaluation of administrators.

Salary Range: $137,021 - $160,296
