Publishing Operations Assistant
W.W. Norton & Company, an independent and employee-owned publisher with a storied history and a wide ranging publishing program is seeking a Publishing Operations Assistant for its Trade Department. The assistant will work with the Vice President of Operations and Director of Paperbacks on critical publishing processes, including but not limited to interdepartmental coordination, metadata management, and research. The ideal candidate can comfortably move between highly accurate detail work and an appreciation of the big picture, and is deeply curious about publishing as a business.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Develop comprehensive understanding of entire publishing process.
- Support Vice President of Operations and Director of Paperbacks in list planning.
- Oversee creation of seasonal catalogs.
- Maintain title metadata for all trade imprints.
- Coordinate information and improve processes across various departments and individuals including but not limited to: metadata, sales, marketing, production, publicity, editorial, subsidiary rights, IT, and business departments.
- Manage deadlines for deliverables from these departments.
- Act as a resource to the trade department on best practices and use of internal systems including Microsoft SharePoint and Edelweiss.

Required Qualifications:

- Basic familiarity with databases.

- Skill in balancing priorities.
- Confidence and experience working in data management systems preferred.
- Experience with Airtable or other low code applications is a plus.
- Candidates should highlight any experience in marketing, market research, copyediting, copywriting, or low code scripting.
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent work experience.
- Employment eligibility to work with W.W. Norton & Company in the US is required.
- Must be able to work from Norton’s New York City headquarters.
Compensation and Benefits*
Currently available benefits include:
- Annual compensation for this position is $48,000. All salaries and salary ranges posted by Norton may vary depending on experience, skills, location, and like considerations.
