Opportunity:
The Security Department seeks a Security Officer to ensure a safe and secure environment for all visitors, staff, and volunteers through superior customer service at the Cleveland Botanical Garden. The Security Officer will assist visitors, members and staff by maintaining the safety and security of people and property. The Security Officer needs to be able to work a flexible schedule including weekdays, evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
Position Details:

- 20 hours a week
- Must have a flexible schedule to be able to work weekends, evenings and some holidays
Key Responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities of the Security Officer position include but are not limited to:
- Provide a safe, customer-service oriented environment at the Cleveland Botanical Garden for all guests and staff
- Become familiar with HF&G’s Disaster Preparedness & Emergency Response Plan and execute the plan when necessary
- Maintain the safety of visitors, employees and property at the Garden while enforcing Garden rules and regulations through regular patrols
- Providing information and assistance to visitors in a pleasant, professional manner
- Work closely with Guest Services to provide the best information and service to visitors
- Prepare accurate and clear reports of accidents, illness, theft, vandalism or any other unusual occurrence
- Monitor security systems and operations including, but not limited to security cameras, monitors, software, and parking
- Control traffic whenever needed
- Perform security rounds for building, parking garage, and grounds, securing public and staff areas
- Provide assistance during regular hours of operation, special events, and private after-hours rentals
- Enforce the security procedures and policies for the Cleveland Botanical Garden
- Provide first response for emergencies
- Operate and monitor parking garage, security, and parking equipment
- Collaborate with other departments to provide exemplary guest service to all visitors, volunteers, and staff
- Communicate with and assist visitors, members, and employees at every level of the organization in a positive, professional manner
- Ability to work flexible schedule, including weekends, during either first or second shift, evening events, and holidays
Qualifications and Skills:
- Demonstrate a passion for people and nature
- Minimum of High school diploma or GED, required
- Two years professional safety or security experience, preferred
- Technical knowledge: Familiarity with different types of security equipment, including cameras, fire panels, access systems preferred. Knowledge of Amino Plus, Linear, Guard, Pro-Watch and/or other similar systems, a plus
- Two years professional A/V experience, a plus
- Valid driver’s license
- Current CPR, AED & First Aid Training certificate preferred or be able to certify within one year of start date
- Proficient use of Microsoft 365 products, specifically Teams, Outlook (email and calendar), Word, Excel, SharePoint, and OneDrive, preferred
- A positive attitude, willingness to learn, and ability to participate within a multi-disciplinary team
Physical Requirements
Must be able to perform with or without reasonable accommodations:
- Work in various settings to include inside an office and outside patrolling the grounds by foot
- Perform tasks in all weather conditions, temperatures may range from 35-100F
- Walk and work on wet, uneven, slippery terrain, irregular stairs and landscaped areas
- Ability to walk, kneel, bend, stoop and crouch
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- This position involves frequent walking, both inside and outside
