Summer Intern for Distressed and Special Situations Credit Hedge Fund

Carl Marks Management Company (“CMMC”) is a NYC-based firm focused on investing in middle market distressed, stressed and special situations credit opportunities with a consistent record of strong performance since its founding in 1987. CMMC invests in performing stressed and special situations loans and bonds that it feels have superior return potential for the risk incurred. We are also often active during restructuring processes and stay involved with companies after completion of financial restructurings.

 

Role 

We are seeking a Summer Intern to support the nine-person team. The Summer Intern will participate in all aspects of the investment process as well as investor relations and fundraising. As an Intern you will gain meaningful hands-on work and investing experience and mentorship as well as networking opportunities to help develop your career.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Assist in monitoring existing portfolio investments across various industries
  • Monitor and compile summary information on targets for investment
  • Conduct independent credit, valuation, and industry analyses
  • Create and maintain detailed financial models
  • Assist in preparing materials for investor communications and fundraising

 

Requirements

This position requires strong interpersonal and communication skills. Most importantly, the successful candidate will be highly enthusiastic, driven, and a quick learner.

  • Accounting, financial analysis and modeling skills
  • Experience with PowerPoint and Excel
  • Ability to conduct comprehensive research, identify and assess key issues, and synthesize results
  • Resourceful, detail-oriented team player with strong work ethic and organizational skills. Ability to take ownership and complete assignments on a timely basis
  • Current college student working towards a BA or BS, preferably with a focus in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or other related business areas
  • Based in or near New York City

 

Compensation and Other Details

  • Hourly compensation at $25/hour
  • Approximately 40 hours per week in-person
  • Employment Status: Intern
