Job Overview

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Bureau of Water (BOW), Infrastructure Financial Assistance Section, Pre-Construction Unit is seeking to hire Life Science Career Trainee (Option E).  The ideal candidate will participate in the agency sponsored training program for a six to twelve months duration. This trainee position receives working assignments designed to develop knowledge, understanding and practical skills consonant with various professional life sciences career disciplines within the Pre-Construction Unit. As a LSCT, you will receive controlled assignments in a broad range of departmental activities with increasing difficulty and responsibility.

Essential Functions

  • Receives training for a period of six to twelve months duration to gain knowledge in work assignments designed to
    develop knowledge, understanding, and practical skills consonant with working as a Project Manager of grant and
    loan funded projects for the construction and rehabilitation of public water supply and wastewater systems for the
    Pre-Construction Unit B, Infrastructure Financial Assistant Section in the Bureau of Water (BOW);
  • Receives training to assist loan and grant applicants with completing loan and grant application documents;
  • Participates in training activities to assist in special projects in general support of the loan and grant assistance
    programs;
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings, conferences, and other activities which will provide a meaningful
    learning experience.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required, which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated
    above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in some field of the life sciences.
  • This class is included as an Upward Mobility Program credential title.

Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance)

  •  Prefers ability to prepare comprehensive written and oral reports.
  •  Prefers ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Prefers ability to profit from training received in the designated area of state government.
  •  Prefers ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with other employees and agency

representatives.

  • Prefers the ability to utilize a personal computer with knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel software.
  • Prefers the ability to communicate on a daily basis by telephone and e-mail with loan applicants and their consulting

engineering representatives.

  • Prefers basic math skill including knowledge of percentages, fractions and prorations.

Conditions of Employment
