Research/ Strategic Coordinator

Research/ Strategic Coordinator, Mukono District, Uganda

In this position, you will work with our full-time Ugandan staff to help coordinate our programs and execute our research. We are an NGO working in Uganda for 18 years. Our focus is medical/ community health. We train and maintain over 1000 community health workers, build cookstoves and protected water sources, teach in local schools, screen for hypertension, and run a mental health program. We have conducted several clinical trials and have multiple publications. We host visiting medical, nursing, public health, and undergraduate students for brief or longer-term programs. Several prior students in this position have gone on to medical school and there is a preference for pre-medical candidates interested in global health, though not required. We have a comfortable compound in Makata, near Mukono Town, Uganda, 13 miles from Kampala. The position is for 9-12 months, with a flexible start date, either this summer to as late as September. Wages are well above (PCV) Peace Corps Volunteers' monthly stipend but nominal, including travel to and from Uganda once. 

Requirements: College graduate, strong communication and computer skills, able to live and work in rural Uganda, interest in pursuing a medical/ GH career helpful though not required, interest in fieldwork, research, health equity, and overall program strategy. 

Responsibilities: Live and work in our compound in Makata, Uganda. Serve as liaison between visiting students and Ugandan staff; conduct fieldwork multiple times per week; work with CEO on program strategy and program evaluation; work with CMO on various research activities. 

Living: Our compound in Makata is safe and secure, with 24-hour security, gated, 8 buildings with capacity for 25 people, indoor plumbing, hot/ cold showers, solar powered, wifi, full staff for cooking/ cleaning, rural, quiet in a safe region.
