As a Lab Instructor for the Jazz Lab™ Summer Experience, you'll lead students in creating collaborative abstract art in a calm, welcoming space. With an emphasis on creativity, experimentation, and mindfulness, you’ll encourage exploration across diverse materials while nurturing a peaceful, open atmosphere for artistic expression.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead three 55-minute art labs daily, each serving approximately 25 students.
  • Guide students in abstract, improvisational art-making, inspired by live or recorded jazz music.
  • Cultivate a calm, collaborative environment where students feel safe to explore, take creative risks, and express themselves.
  • Engage students in light, age-appropriate conversations about the power of creative expression.
  • Maintain a clean, welcoming, creative space; delegate setup and cleanup tasks to your lab assistant as needed.
  • Monitor student safety, inclusion, and engagement throughout each session.
  • Reset the space between labs to refresh energy and ensure materials are organized and ready to go.

Qualifications:

  • Professional artist or college junior/senior pursuing a degree in Art or a related field
  • Passion for arts education and nurturing creative expression in youth
  • Ability to manage and engage students in a structured, yet imaginative setting
