Time: 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. (lunch break 12:00 p.m. - 12:30 p.m.)
Contract Rate: $1,500

Join us for a unique opportunity to inspire young artists, ages 7–17, in a vibrant and supportive arts environment.
As a Lab Instructor for the Jazz Lab™ Summer Experience, you'll lead students in creating collaborative abstract art in a calm, welcoming space. With an emphasis on creativity, experimentation, and mindfulness, you’ll encourage exploration across diverse materials while nurturing a peaceful, open atmosphere for artistic expression.
Responsibilities:
- Lead three 55-minute art labs daily, each serving approximately 25 students.
- Guide students in abstract, improvisational art-making, inspired by live or recorded jazz music.
- Cultivate a calm, collaborative environment where students feel safe to explore, take creative risks, and express themselves.
- Engage students in light, age-appropriate conversations about the power of creative expression.
- Maintain a clean, welcoming, creative space; delegate setup and cleanup tasks to your lab assistant as needed.
- Monitor student safety, inclusion, and engagement throughout each session.
- Reset the space between labs to refresh energy and ensure materials are organized and ready to go.
Qualifications:
- Professional artist or college junior/senior pursuing a degree in Art or a related field
- Passion for arts education and nurturing creative expression in youth
- Ability to manage and engage students in a structured, yet imaginative setting
- Experience with—or strong interest in—improvisational music and abstract art-making
