WHO ARE WE

The Texas Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Division administers 12 federal child and special nutrition programs and more than $2.5 billion in federal money annually. These programs aim to reduce hunger, encourage strong nutrition, and support local economies across Texas.

 

WHAT YOU’LL DO

The Outreach and Graphic Design Intern for Food & Nutrition (F&N) will provide assistance for Outreach and Program

Engagement initiatives. You will work under close supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. You will assist the Outreach and Program Engagement team with performing graphic and multimedia design and production work relating to the Texas Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition (F&N) Division’s programs and functions. You will assist with the design, layout, and production of graphics and promotional media materials and contribute to the release of information regarding the division and its programs to stakeholders in a timely and professional manner.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist with design, developing and producing graphic design and promotional materials to fulfill Division goals and objectives while maintaining brand identity.

 

Execute assigned projects, ensuring project schedules are completed within agreed-upon time frames.

 

Assist Outreach and Program Engagement team in development of marketing tactics and managing assigned projects from inception to completion ensuring project schedules are completed within agreed-upon timeframes.

 

Work closely with division staff in learning about Outreach and Program Engagement supported initiatives and assist with the creation of promotional materials.

 

Prepare, edit, and review visual media for internal and external stakeholders to include, but not limited to, outreach materials, informational resources, events, and other supplemental materials

 

Design and develop informational materials to inform and educate the public on policies and regulations through simple and appealing visualizations.

 

Support the visual design and development of e-communication strategies for stakeholders using multiple communication channels, such as email, social media outlets and website content.

 

Ensure work aligns with the best practices regarding accessibility and TDA F&N approved brand identities.

 

Follow all TDA policies and procedures.

 

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications - External

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION

Enrollment in a college, university, or graduate program or a recent graduate with a minimum grade point average of 3.0*.

 

Experience in graphic design in both digital and printed media.

 

Experience using Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.

 

Completion of at least 60 credit hours*.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Coursework and/or experience with developing printed marketing materials and familiarity with creative industry standards.

 

Coursework and/or experience with developing digital media such as social media and graphics for web.

 

Candidates that include work examples or a portfolio will be highly considered

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Skill in the use of critical thinking; graphic design software, terminology, and creative industry standards; experience with accessibility guidelines and brand identity; command of proper grammatical usage of the English language; written

communication; providing customer service excellence to both internal and external customers; and skill in the use of a

computer and applicable software.

 

Knowledge of office procedures; of spelling, punctuation, and grammar; and of business or program terminology, methods, and procedures.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS

Normal office work environment and may have exposure to dust and environmental allergens consistent with normal business activities and human contact. Mostly sedentary in nature but may involve walking; standing; pulling and pushing; kneeling, stooping, and bending; performing tasks requiring fine motor skills and coordination; and safely lifting and carrying items weighing up to 30 pounds. Must be able to work extended periods at a computer and may require working extended hours and some evenings and weekends, as needed. May involve travel, occasionally overnight (up to 5%).
