Looking to build your skills and make a real impact this summer? Operation BBQ Relief is seeking a creative, motivated intern to support our fast-paced Marketing & Communications team.

We’re a national nonprofit that feeds communities after disasters and supports veterans, first responders, and their families year-round. As our Marketing & Communications Intern, you’ll help us tell powerful stories, manage content across platforms, and contribute to marketing campaigns from idea to execution.

Schedule & Time Commitment:

This is a full-time internship (up to 40 hours per week). Weekly hours may vary depending on current projects and disaster deployments. Flexibility is expected, especially during times of disaster response when communication is critical.

Full Job Description:

Internship Title: Marketing & Communications Intern

Position Status: Full-time                                           

Classification: Non Exempt

Department: Marketing & Communications             

Reports to: Sr. Director of Marketing & Communications

Supervises: NA                                                           

Prepared Date: April 2025

Work Location: This is a remote position.

Work Schedule: This is a temporary, internship position, May 2025 – August 2025. The typical work week is forty (40) hours. During periods of high activity (i.e., during OBR deployments and events), the position may require working during evenings and weekends. 

Position Summary: 

The Marketing and Communications Intern will help tell OBR’s story through compelling content, creative campaigns, media outreach, and authentic engagement across digital platforms. This is a hands-on role where one’s ideas, voice, and creativity matter. This internship will contribute to social content, assist with press releases, and support storytelling projects that elevate our brand and drive real-world impact.

Essential Functions:

  • Collaborate with the Marketing & Communications team to create and publish original content for OBR’s digital channels, including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, YouTube, and TikTok
  • Draft copy for social media, email campaigns, blog posts, website updates, and press releases
  • Contribute creative ideas and assist in the planning and execution of marketing and fundraising campaigns
  • Help brainstorm and produce story-driven content, including testimonials, spotlights, and deployment updates
  • Assist in the creation of visual content such as graphics, infographics, and short-form videos (with guidance from the design team)
  • Monitor and engage with audiences on social media platforms
  • Track and report on key performance metrics for campaigns and content
  • Research trends, tactics, and content strategies to inspire and amplify OBR’s digital storytelling
  • Support projects such as the monthly newsletter, annual report, and special events
  • Collaborate with external vendors and agency partners as needed
  • Complete administrative tasks such as forms, evaluations, and training modules
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Strong writing and storytelling skills.

  • Familiarity with major social media platforms and digital marketing trends.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace.
  • Passion for nonprofit work and mission-driven storytelling.

Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Enrolled in a college or university program, preferably in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Advertising or a related field.
  • Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar creative tools preferred.
  • Experience with MailChimp, Hootsuite, and Meta Business Suite preferred.
