TWE in Paso Robles is a large, state of the art facility, where we process fruit from our estate vineyards on the Central Coast and many other California appellations. We’re able to process large production wines as well as small premium lots. Our laboratory is technologically advanced and equipped to support a large volume of samples.

About the Role

TWE Paso Robles seeks an enthusiastic Harvest Laboratory Intern for the 2025 Harvest. The seasonal, hourly position begins Aug – Sep 2025 and ends Oct – Dec 2025. The successful candidate will work directly with wine chemists in a fast-paced environment to perform analyses of grapes, juice, must and wine. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct all activities in a mindful manner observing all safety rules, proper personal hygiene, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s), and cleaning and sanitation requirements.
  • Must be flexible with scheduling of workdays, hours and shift assignments. Up to 40/week and weekends included.
  • Retrieve samples from wine tanks filled with in-process fermentations and wines using proper sampling techniques.
  • Perform daily Brix analyses (sugar level in grapes) and temperature monitoring on fermenting tanks.
  • Perform routine harvest juice and wine analyses using a wide assortment of advanced and automated equipment.
  • Learn to read and interpret analytical results such as Brix, alcohol, pH, total acidity (TA), volatile acidity (VA), residual sugars (RS), ammonia, primary amino nitrogen (NOPA), potassium (K), free and total sulfur (FS and TS), filterability and other analyses accurately and efficiently.
  • Record and enter data in central collection systems: Excel, JDE, VinoEZ and AgCode.
  • Maintain good general housekeeping of the Lab and Tasting Room: discard samples; clean glassware, counter tops, lab equipment and instruments regularly.
  • Communicate all analytical results to winemaking and cellar teams in a timely manner.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS 

  • Valid California Driver's License and clean DMV record required.

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • A degree in enology, viticulture, biology, chemistry, or related scientific field is preferred, but not required.
  • Previous winery experience is preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a dynamic, contributing team member in a fast-paced environment.
  • Positive attitude, eagerness to learn, and willingness to work long hours in both indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Ability to perform physical labor when necessary, and able to lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Able to work early mornings (3am shifts) preferred.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills; ability to manage priorities and workflow.
  • Excellent communication skills; effective communication in English.
  • Experience in Microsoft Excel and Word required, strong data management skills required.
  • Must be 21 years of age.
