Position
Visit Philadelphia is seeking a creative, detail-oriented, and social media–savvy intern to support our award-winning social media team. This internship offers a hands-on opportunity to contribute to the digital storytelling and online presence of one of the nation’s most iconic cities. The Social Media Intern will play an important role in shaping how Philadelphia is represented across platforms by assisting with the day-to-day operations of our social strategy, contributing fresh ideas for engaging content, supporting research efforts around local events and trends, and helping report on campaign performance. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about Philadelphia, plugged into digital culture, and eager to learn how a major destination marketing organization uses social media to inspire travel and civic pride.
This part-time internship is expected to average no more than 20 hours per week, beginning June 1, 2025, and continuing through August 29, 2025 (or as otherwise mutually agreed). The position pays $20 per hour and reports to the Senior Director of Social, who will coordinate and confirm the intern’s schedule.
Primary Responsibilities
● Assist in organizing and labeling Instagram Stories and Reels in Brandwatch for performance tracking and insights
● Support the writing of weekly social media copy, including the popular “Things to Do” series
● Brainstorm and pitch content ideas for Instagram and TikTok, including b-roll opportunities and general lifestyle storytelling
● Contribute creative ideas for national and regional observances, holidays, and other timely moments
●Research local events, new restaurant openings, accolades, and other cultural happenings in Philadelphia
● Capture b-roll footage for social media content, supporting larger video storytelling efforts
● Assist in compiling and creating weekly social listening reports to identify audience trends and sentiment
● Take notes during internal and partner meetings, supporting documentation and action item follow-ups
Qualifications
Education Requirements
● Must be enrolled in a college or university study program
● Must have completed course work in marketing, advertising, graphic design, or related topics
Specialized Experience, Skills and Abilities
● Strong writing and communication skills.
● Solid understanding of social media platforms, their respective audiences, and how each platform can be used to achieve different goals
● Basic understanding of social media analytics and reporting.
● Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
● Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
● Creativity and a passion for social media marketing.
● Basic knowledge of graphic design or video editing software is a plus.
