Pima County Development Services Department is currently searching for the right candidate who has a strong background in residential and commercial building construction and codes to fill our Building Inspector Supervisor position. Essential Functions:

- Plans, organizes, assigns, supervises, reviews, and evaluates the work of building inspection and related support staff;
- Recommends selection of staff, trains staff, and provides for their professional development, administering discipline as required;
- Inspects new and existing industrial, commercial, and/or residential properties, and/or other building and construction for conformance to codes, regulations, plans, specifications, and standards;
- Depending upon the level of certification and expertise, may perform several types of inspections for one facility at one time;
- Confers with and provides information to developers, engineers, architects, property owners, and others regarding code requirements and alternatives, and County policies and procedures wherever possible, resolving complaints and problems;
- Reviews plans and specifications for buildings and related construction involving installation, remodeling, replacement, and repair for use in performance of inspections;
- Reviews documentation and maintains accurate records of inspections, actions taken, and regulatory efforts;
- Prepares written reports and correspondence, and issues citations to correct code violations;
- Develops and maintains knowledge of construction technology, methods, and materials;
- Updates code knowledge through regular training sessions;
- Develops and conducts training programs for less-experienced inspectors in area(s) of expertise;
- Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
Minimum Qualifications:
Five years of experience in a public-sector building codes/enforcement setting as a Codes Enforcement, Building, or Plans Reviewer, including one year of supervisory or lead experience in any combination of building, inspection, or enforcement or construction settings.
(Supervisory/lead experience may be concurrent with the required general experience.)
OR:
Three years with Pima County as a Building Inspector or in a closely related position as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment.
(Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)

Preferred Qualifications: (Be specific in describing your experience in your application. Ensure the descriptions provided illustrate your competencies, specifically addressing the required and preferred qualifications.):
- Residential or Commercial Combination Building Inspector (ICC) certification.
- Minimum five (5) years experience with the application of building codes.
- Minimum one (1) year of supervision, lead, or administrative experience in a building inspection/construction setting.
- Minimum six (6) months experience with Microsoft Office products.
- Experience with GIS and inspection software.
- Experience with zoning/grading regulations.

Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum/desired qualifications. Candidates meeting the minimum/desired qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications.
