Local Focus Internship

PBS Western Reserve is a reliable and trustworthy community resource. We provide commercial-free television and related services that inspire, educate, and illuminate. Our goal is to cater to our audience's varied interests and needs by offering consistently outstanding programs and lifelong educational services. We strive to provide cultural and artistic enlightenment and enjoyment, exposure to local, state, and national public affairs, and opportunities for lifelong learning through formal instruction and general educational programming.  This remarkable service is accessible to around 4.9 million people in the Cleveland and Youngstown designated market areas, making it the most extensive population of Ohio's eight PBS member stations. On average, over a million viewers tune in each month. The organization also runs two standard definition channels: Fusion (WNEO 45.2 / WEAO 49.2) and FNX (WNEO 45.3 / WEAO 49.3).

 

PBS Western Reserve Content Department – Local Focus Internship:

Duties will include but not be limited to the following:

Producing Local Focus video stories for broadcast and online for PBS Western Reserve by writing stories, setting up and conducting interviews, then recording B-roll and other supporting elements.

Editing those elements into a story using Adobe Creative Cloud software.

Serving as crew in various capacities for potential productions both in our studio and in the field.

Participating in various meetings with other production team members and station employees.

Taking on other potential projects as assigned and on an as needed basis.

Skills:

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Excellent organizational, project planning, presentation, interpersonal, and time management skills.

Ability to write, shoot, and edit short form features, 2 – 10 minutes in length

Has basic studio and field production skills, including camera, lighting, audio, video switcher, teleprompter, and movement of sets and graphics.

Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, Microsoft Suite, and Google Workspace.

Candidates with writing, shooting, editing and crew experience, in a school or professional setting, will be given preference.

Requirements:

Work on-site at PBS Western Reserve in Kent, Oh, and go into the field to produce stories.

General schedule is 20 hours per week, Monday - Friday.  PBS Western Reserve office hours are 8am - 4pm, however, events may warrant evenings and/or weekends.
