Psychology Assistant and Mental Health Promotion

The office of Dr. Robin Kay, Ph.D., is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Psychology Assistant to support the daily operations of a clinical psychologist who maintains a private practice as a Clinical Psychologist and Psychological Consultant and serves on the voluntary teaching faculty in the Department of Psychiatry at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine.

This is an excellent part-time opportunity to gain exposure to the field of mental health in general, and clinical psychology in particular. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, preparing materials for clients, supporting data entry and practice management, assisting in the preparation of professional presentations at UCLA and at national conferences, conducting literature reviews, and providing general administrative support.

There also may be an opportunity in the near future to contribute to an in-progress book on Attachment, Anxiety, Emotion Regulation, the Brain, and Healing Trauma. Your role could be to help build a social media following and create and/or package social media content that has mass appeal to the general public about optimizing mental health.

Requirements:
• A current (or recently graduated) college student studying psychology or a related field,
• At least 5 months of previous work experience, paid or unpaid, preferably related to psychology or to social media and health promotion,
• Extremely well-organized with a strong track record of maturity,
• Available to start immediately,
• Willing to commit to at least 6 consecutive months of work on the team,
• Willing to commit to a minimum of 8 hours and a maximum of 12 hours per week (weekdays),
• Onsite availability in Westwood for at least 6 hours per week (some remote work may be possible),
• Experience with Canva, Instagram, LinkedIn, and/or TikTok is preferred,

• Experience using Windows computers and compatible applications including Microsoft Office (Word, etc.),
• Ability to commit to a weekly schedule with no fewer than two 3-hour blocks between the hours of 11 AM and 5 PM on weekdays.

Please do not apply if:
• You do not live in Los Angeles.
• You do not have relevant experience in psychology through coursework or previous positions (voluntary or paid).
• You cannot commit for six consecutive months beginning May, 2025.

If you believe you are a strong fit for this opportunity and are available to start immediately, please email your resume and cover letter to DrKayOfficeStaff@gmail.com in addition to submitting your application through Handshake. Your cover letter should highlight your relevant psychology experience and your reason for applying to this opportunity. Please clearly state for how many months you will be available, and which specific hours each week you are able to make available for this opportunity. If you do not yet know your class schedule for the Summer or Fall terms, please indicate that.

This could turn into a full-time job after graduation, as it did for several people who started out on a part-time basis, and then worked during their “gap years” prior to entering graduate school or pursuing other full-time professional work.

This position could be invaluable in preparing you for future pursuits including Masters, Ph.D., or M.D. level programs in business, marketing, psychology, neuroscience, psychiatry, sociology, or a hybrid graduate degree. In addition, much of the subject matter you will be working with on a regular basis will also be applicable to your own life (e.g., anxiety reduction, emotion management, relationship enhancement, curtailing addictive behaviors, improving self-confidence, etc.).
