Shipping Supervisor
The Shipping Supervisor will oversee the shipping functions at the plant level. Along with building a safe and efficient work team this position requires a strive for on time delivery, a quality mind and attention to detail. This is a hands-on position working in a fast-paced manufacturing facility that requires an individual who can make decisions quickly, manage processes effectively and strive for improvements, and meet our Customer requirements. In addition, he or she must ensure the shipping operation is safe, efficient and meets the needs of our strategic plan and customer commitments. The Shipping Supervisor reports directly to the VP of Operations and is accountable for the pick/pack/ship functions.
Responsibilities:
- Manage all aspects of shipping, warehousing, and distribution operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing operational, and personnel policies and procedures.
- Act as Magline’s leader in freight negotiation and lead all cost saving initiatives by providing best in class services for all out bound shipments.
- Hands-on knowledge in all warehouse areas including: Filling and shipping customer orders, satisfying internal shipping requirements (technical work instruction service, outside services, etc.), ensuring accuracy of shipments and supporting documentation, ensuring inventory transactions are accurately logged and overseeing cycle counts and reconciliation activities.
- Assist in the creation of warehouse key performance indicators (KPIs) and ensure they are met or exceeded.
- Assisting with annual budgeting; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances and initiating corrective actions.
- Scheduling and training staff in all work areas and providing on-going training and tools required to ensure their success.
- Assist with recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees.
- Plan work schedules and assign duties to maintain adequate staff for effective performance of activities and response to fluctuating workloads. This includes the coordination of shifting resources with production to meet customer demand.
- Supervise warehouse staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees, planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
- Be the back up to the LTL Logistics Coordinator.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- MUST be HANDS ON in both your work and warehouse leadership.
- Successful background in training and motivating employees
- Strong experience in ensuring safe work habits and a safe work environment; active participation in company safety programs, accident investigations, and preventive measures.
- Demonstrated knowledge of warehouse and inventory management practices to include shipping, receiving and inventory control and accuracy, put away, pick/pack/ship (internal and external customer), LTL and International.
- A demonstrated ability to use creativity in the development of solutions and systems to continuously improve organizational efficiency and effectiveness in an ever-changing environment.
- Must be able to assist others in improving and documenting a system of production control for warehouse operations standard operating procedure, safety, quality control, and performance management.
- Hands-on experience in maintaining effective employee relations and resolving employee issues through problem resolution and grievance procedure.
- Strong interpersonal, organization, planning, communication, and interaction skills.
- Strong computer skills with a strong emphasis in a manufacturing environment that supports all the company’s departments. Experience with Microsoft Office Products and Outlook preferred. Experience with Epicor Kinetic is a plus.
- Must be focused on internal and external customers, with the ability to provide a high level of quality service.
- Experience within a union environment is a plus.
- Knowledge of manufacturing is required and familiarity with metalworking (bending, stamping, welding, etc.) is a plus.
- Strong preference for a bachelor’s degree; appropriate experience in lieu of a degree will be considered
