Intern, Business Operations

Are you interested in learning more about supply and logistics, skills of general business office operations, and how it correlates with transportation industry and the communities we serve. 

Alaska Marine Lines is seeking an Intern to provide general business, clerical and/or administrative assistance for our Seattle based team.

This is a job posting for an internship.  Interns generally work 40 hours per week for a minimum period of 12 weeks during the summer months.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Research or enter information with the computer to provide assistance to various departments, inquire on or update customer accounts, facilitate replies to customers or vendors, prepare bills, receipts, checks, or other documents.
  • Photocopy and scan documents and perform other miscellaneous duties.
  • Sort and file records.  Proofread records or forms.
  • Assist with projects or other departments on an as-needed basis such as administrative tasks, organizing information or inputting information.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Successful candidates should be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program. Candidates are required to have high school diploma or general education degree (GED).  Must have strong Excel skills and be familiar with Microsoft Word and Outlook.  PowerPoint and/or SharePoint experience is appreciated.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

  • Ability to meet a regular work schedule.
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work to meet schedules/deadlines.
  • Regular attendance and timeliness are essential functions of this position. Daily physical presence is required.
  • Ability to work alone or as part of a team with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to change focus and job duties in a fast moving, time restricted environment.
  • PC skills required: Windows, Excel, Outlook, keyboarding proficiency.
