Application Requirements:
The Global Center on Human Trafficking is offering 2 internships this spring for undergraduate and graduate students. Candidates will be required to submit a resume alone with 1-2 paragraphs answering the following questions:
o Why are you interested in this internship?
o What skills are you hoping to learn/gain?
o What are your future career goals/aspirations?
o Anything else we should know about you?

Internship Description
Internship Supervisor: Ashlee Martellacci, Student Affairs and Community Engagement Coordinator, Global Center on Human Trafficking at Montclair State University
Mandatory Office Drop In Hours: Staff the Global Center on Human Trafficking Office during drop in hours once a week to answer questions from students regarding how to get involved with the center, adding students to our mailing list, etc. Duration and office schedule will be discussed and created with the internship supervisor at the beginning of internship.
*Please note: hours can be done both in person and virtually.
Potential Projects
Interns may be asked to work on one or all the projects listed below. Additional projects may arise/become available during the internship. You may be asked to work as part of a group or individually. You will be required to attend an orientation at the beginning of the internship. You will meet with Ashlee once a week to discuss your progress. Weekly hours will be tracked using Toggl Tracker and reviewed each week.
Project 1
Title: Assist with Event Organizing
Description: Assist Global Center on Human Trafficking staff in organizing and planning events. This could include in person/virtual on and off campus events.
Deliverables:
- Creating new events to promote the center/human trafficking awareness.
- Staff events the day of.
- Promoting upcoming events around campus/on social media.
- Creating agendas/flyers.
- Creating social media posts.
- Collaborating with other organizations/departments on campus.
- Participating/serving on planning committees.
Project 2
Title: Bella Chanel Workshops
Description: Create and facilitate 1-2 hour monthly workshops for the Bella Chanel Mentoring Program on Saturdays between 11AM-4PM in Passaic, NJ.
Bella Chanel Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-for-profit organization committed to supporting young ladies into global minded leaders of tomorrow through mentoring, education, and personal development.
Kim Cottrell founded the organization in 2016 with a goal of connecting with young girls to assist them in building the best of their academic, social and emotional needs. She recognized the importance of mentorship to build community amongst girls, empowerment based activities to develop character and individualized support to guide girls to reach their goals.
This study will explore investigatory methods identified by law enforcement with a high level of expertise working human trafficking cases resulting in successful prosecution of human traffickers through interviews.
Deliverables:
- Review Bella Chanel website
- Review Hope Education Project
- Review sample workshops on Relationships and Self-Esteem
- Created by Ashlee Martellacci and previous interns
- Set-up meeting with Ashlee to discuss the project and answer any questions
- Set-up meeting with Kim Cottrell director of Bella Chanel
- Learn more about her, the program, and the girls currently enrolled.
- Make a schedule for workshops and topics.
- Review IRB protocol to see if this can be submitted for approval
- Set up a meeting with Daniella Peterka-Benton and Ashlee Martellacci to discuss further.
- Workshop development based on Hope Education Topics and Learning Objectives (one at a time).
- Outline/structure
- Content development according to the learning objectives
- Include at least one activity
- List of additional resources/supports for the topic
- Pre/post evaluation (conditional on IRB approval/involvement)
Project 3
Title: Social Media
Description: Creating content for GCHT’s Instagram and TikTok in the form of reels. Content will be focused on highlighting engagement across campus, surveying the MSU community’s knowledge of GCHT and human trafficking, while introducing an educational component aimed to combat mis-information and conspiracy theories. This will be conducted in the form of interviews with follow up clips appropriately addressing content.
Specific roles and responsibilities will be determined post-orientation.
GCHT will provide content, subject, and educational materials.
Deliverables:
- Attend 1 weekly check in call with GCHT staff Christabelle Robinson and/or Madison Kranis.
- Attend important campus and GCHT events as determined by GCHT staff with advance notice.
- Help launch new campaign, Myth-busting Mondays
- Filming reels.
Project 4
Title: Student Ambassador Program
Description: Co-coordinator GCHT’s Student Ambassador Program with another intern under the guidance/supervision of internship supervisor.
Deliverables:
- Reach out to old student ambassadors to see if they are still interested in participating in the program again this year.
- Reach out to new student ambassador applicants to see if they are still interested in participating in the program.
- Recruit more students for the program via:
- Tabling events on campus
- University Hall lobby
- Homecoming
- Flea Market
- Create Social Media reels/posts
- Run weekly/biweekly student ambassador meetings.
- Create an agenda for each meeting.
- Should be approved by the internship supervisor before each meeting.
- Create an agenda for each meeting.
- Assistant student ambassadors with developing, hosting, and running one human trafficking awareness event on campus in Spring 2025.
Project 5
Title: Safe Space Training
Description: The training was developed as a pilot program to increase human trafficking awareness on college campuses among students, faculty, and staff. The goal is to see if we can organize a campus wide training once per semester.
Deliverables:
- Outreach and recruitment campaign.
- Revamp/edit flyer.
- Recruit students, faculty, and staff to take training on the Montclair and Bloomfield campus.
