The Wisconsin Humane Society is looking for a full-time Assistant Shelter Operations Manager at our Ozaukee Campus! This position supports our sheltering work at Ozaukee Campus and reports to the Shelter Operations Manager.  Apply today!

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Lead the People

  • Supervise, coach, and develop staff and volunteers using WHS’s supervisory processes, people-centered approach, and values.
  • Develop performance and professional growth of the team using WHS’s supervisory tools and through effective hiring, onboarding, and training of staff.
  • Collaborate within and across teams to maintain the alignment of people, processes, and organizational functions.

 

Lead the Culture

  • Foster a culture of inclusion by seeking input and perspectives from others.
  • Consistently, accurately, and positively communicate organizational and campus strategic direction, priorities, and key information.
  • Model and champion WHS’s people-centered philosophy.
  • Create and support a workplace environment that exemplifies WHS’s values.
  • Select new team members through hiring and succession planning.

 

Lead the Work

  • Implement, monitor, and maintain organizationally defined animal care and client services standards.
  • Assist in the coordination of intercampus transfers by engaging in daily population checks, shelter rounds, and collaboration with campus leaders.
  • Monitor animal population and ensure that animals are moving efficiently from intake to outcome.
  • Ensure excellent customer service that aligns with our values and creates an inclusive environment for staff and the community.
  • Generate and implement campus-specific standards and procedures as needed.
  • Support scheduling, training, ordering, and daily staff activities.  
  • Perform the core animal care and client services duties as needed.

Qualifications

  • Experience working in animal welfare preferred.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and inspire great performance to achieve results.
  • Commitment to the mission, values, goals, and people-centered philosophy of WHS.
  • Ability to balance the needs of the organization with the needs of staff, animals, and clients.
  • Ability to flex schedule to support the team as needed, including rotating weekend shifts, on-call, and  holidays.

About us

The Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) is the oldest and largest shelter in Wisconsin. It was founded in 1879 and operates shelters in Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Door, Brown, and Kenosha Counties, as well as a Spay/Neuter Clinic in West Allis. The organization offers adoption services, youth programs, low-cost veterinary resources, retail stores, volunteer programs, dog training classes, and much more. The Milwaukee shelter also houses the state’s busiest Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. WHS is an independent nonprofit and receives no general government funding and is not part of any national umbrella group.
