Communications Intern
Reports to: Executive Director
Position Summary:
We are excited to offer the opportunity to join our team as a Communications Intern. This internship is ideal for a motivated individual looking to gain hands-on experience in nonprofit communications, marketing, and community engagement. Under the guidance of the Director of Career Services, the Communications Intern will help tell the story of GSA to the broader community by supporting the implementation of strategic communications and promoting the school’s mission and initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in managing social media accounts and groups to enhance the organization’s visibility and engagement among stakeholders, including alumni, donors, staff, and community partners
- Draft and distribute communications that highlight GSA’s programs, achievements, and events
- Write and edit content for newsletters, website updates, and marketing materials
- Create visually compelling graphic designs using tools such as Canva to support communications across digital and print platforms
- Design and distribute newsletters tailored for various audiences, including students, families, alumni, and community stakeholders
- Help coordinate press coverage, interviews, and media events
- Support responses to public and community inquiries by gathering information or connecting with relevant staff
- Attend and assist at school events to capture content and build relationships with the broader community
- Assist with the creation and distribution of press releases to local media and school district channels
- Monitor media coverage and contribute to reports that evaluate GSA’s public image and communication effectiveness
- Support the development and execution of communications strategies for key departments including Career Services, Family & Community Engagement, Admissions, and School Operations
- Track and analyze communication metrics to evaluate campaign performance and suggest improvements
Qualifications:
- Interest in communications, public relations, marketing, education, or related fields
- Strong writing and editing skills
- Familiarity with Canva or other basic graphic design tools
- Comfortable using social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, etc.)
- Detail-oriented, proactive, and able to work collaboratively
- Passion for education, community engagement, and storytelling
