Athletic Director Classical Charter School

Job Title: Athletic Director (Physical Education Chair)

Location: Ascent Classical Academy of Douglas County (ACADC), Lone Tree CO

FLSA Status: Exempt

Reports to: Headmaster

Start Date: June 1, 2025

Work Hours/Days: Extended year, Monday through Friday, Typical School day 7:00 am-3:35 pm and Professional development/work days

Wage Range: $60,000-$70,000 Annually

Essential Functions:

  • Teach one Physical Education class depending on background and experience
  • Cultivate virtue through instruction, mentorship, and programming
  • Maintain professionalism in conduct and communication, striving to exemplify our core virtues
  • Participate in professional development as offered by ACADC and Hillsdale College's K12 Office
  • Help hire, and serve as the primary observer, coach, mentor, and evaluator for Physical Education teachers K-12
  • Maintains a collegial, professional relationship with students, parents, and colleagues as a partner in the community of learners
  • Design, implement, and oversee a comprehensive athletic program that aligns with the school's mission and values
  • Establish policies and procedures for all athletic activities, ensuring compliance with state regulations and guidelines
  • Lead and support coaching staff in the development of their skills and knowledge, promoting a culture of excellence and continuous improvement
  • Responsible for interviewing and hiring appropriate coaches ahead of the needed season
  • Mentor student-athletes, emphasizing sportsmanship, teamwork, and character development
  • Performs other related duties as directed
  • Develop and manage the athletic department budget, ensuring responsible allocation of resources
  • Create and manage the athletic calendar, coordinating practices, games, and events across various sports
  • Facilitate communication between coaches, athletes, parents, and the community regarding schedules and expectations
  • Ensure all athletic programs adhere to safety standards and policies to promote a safe environment for student-athletesMaintain records of student participation, injuries, and eligibility to ensure compliance with league and school policies:
  • Promote athletic programs within the school community and encourage student participationOrganize and oversee fundraising events, spirit activities, and community outreach related to athletics

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Strong background in content areas; willingness to receive specific training
  • Proficiency in a variety of teaching strategies and techniques to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire students to achieve their personal best
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment
  • Ability to develop positive and professional relationships with students, parents, and colleagues
  • Creative problem-solving skills
  • Conviction in the values of a rigorous liberal arts education

  • Previous coaching experience at the high school or middle school level preferred
  • A passion for sports and physical fitness and a commitment to student development
  • Willingness to perform other related duties as necessary
  • Willingness to take responsibility for being on time and maintaining excellent attendance

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, and actively participate in physical activities for extended periods
  • Capability to lift and move equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Willingness to conduct classes and activities outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Maintain a high level of physical fitness to demonstrate exercises and techniques to students
