R&D Scientist I

Overview

The R&D Scientist I is a professional, exempt position that reports to a member of the R&D Management team. The R&D Scientist I is responsible for conducting development experiments and manufacturing of novel materials and diagnostic test components.

The pay range for this position is $57,000 to $85,700 per year. Compensation will be determined based on education, experience, and other factors in accordance with applicable laws.

Essential Functions 

  • Design and conduct experiments to develop new products or improve existing ones.
  • Evaluate, interpret, and curate data to draw conclusions and present findings in a clear and suitable format.
  • Prepare detailed reports and presentations to management and other team members.
  • Keep comprehensive and accurate records to guarantee data traceability and reproducibility.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Generate and maintain active working relationships with outside vendors and internal groups.
  • Revise and suggest changes to standard operating procedures and safety protocols as requested by the manager.
  • Maintain inventory of raw materials, disposables, and kit/project materials to ensure smooth day-to-day lab operations.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Required:

  • BS in Biochemistry, Biology, or Chemistry.
  • Antibody and small molecule knowledge.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.

Preferred:

  • 1 or more years of related work experience.
  • Familiar with FPLC/HPLC/UPLC/LCMS.
  • Knowledgeable on Production or Quality Control procedures and equipment.
  • Diagnostic test manufacturing experience.
  • GMP/GLP experience.
  • Molecular and structural biology experience (Pymol, etc.).
  • Coding language proficiency (R/Python).
  • DNA software experience (Geneious/SnapGene).
  • Mammalian cell culture experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to occasionally lift up to 10 pounds.
  • Must be able to remain stationary for an extended length of time. This includes performing bench work in a laboratory setting.
  • Must have the ability to operate a computer, printer and handheld diagnostic instruments.
  • Requisite dexterity for pipetting, decanting, weighing, dispensing, etc.
  • Will be exposed to fluctuating environmental conditions (i.e. temperatures ranging from 20°C in a walk-in cold-room where finished product is stored to 28°C in reel-to-reel spray room).
