Position Overview
As a Laboratory Genetic Counseling Assistant I, you will be responsible for assisting Genetic Counselors with their workflow. Daily responsibilities include working as a client facing group to draft responses to clinical inquiries, reaching out to ordering providers when there is a laboratory-based need such as requesting additional samples/paperwork or offering a more cost effective or sensitive testing strategy, and triaging phone calls for the genetic counselors.
This role is located in Marshfield, WI. Start times range from 7:00am-10:30am, specifics of the schedule will be discussed during the interview process.
Potential start dates for this role are late April to early May 2025.
Essential Duties
Include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provide support and help organize workflow for Genetic Counselors.
- Monitor and assist with call center and the genetic counseling client phones.
- Assist on any follow up that is required from specimens received.
- Develop standard templates for frequent inquiries.
- Maintain and monitor company website for broken links and outdated information.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients and colleagues by using appropriate interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage confidential information.
- Ability to set priorities and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to troubleshoot problems effectively and efficiently with strong critical thinking and high attention to detail.
- Ability to become proficient with new software programs rapidly.
- Ability to represent the company in various capacities and participate in community outreach as well as data compilation for research.
- Ability to learn new laboratory skills and adapt to changing technology.
- Ability and flexibility to work rotating schedule with reliable attendance.
- Assist reporting specialists with reissuing clinical reports to providers

- Ability to work on a computer and phone simultaneously.
- Ability to use a telephone through a headset.
- Ability to grasp with both hands; pinch with thumb and forefinger; turn with hand/arm; reach above shoulder height.
- Ability to comply with any applicable personal protective equipment requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree (in Genetics, Chemistry, Biology, Medical Technology, or field as outlined in the essential duties).
- Comfortable working with specialized software applications
- Strong grasp of molecular biology and genetics techniques and principles.
- Excellent verbal, nonverbal, and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to confidently make and receive phone calls from a variety of healthcare professionals and patients.
- Demonstrated ability to work with specialized laboratory instrumentation and software applications.
- Demonstrated strong grasp of molecular biology and genetics techniques and principles.
- Computer skills including internet navigation and email usage.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, such as: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, OneNote.
- Demonstrated ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.
- Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
