Education and Events Intern

The Pasadena Symphony and POPS is seeking one intern for the summer of 2025. This internship is funded by the Los Angeles County Department of Arts and Culture. 

  • This is a paid internship consisting of 25-40 hours per week for a total of 400 hours for ~14 weeks between June to August 2025. 

2025 Arts Internship positions are open to currently enrolled undergraduate (2 or 4-year) and community college students who reside or attend college in Los Angeles County. Recent graduates may apply as long as they have completed their degree between May 1 - December 1, 2025. The Department of Arts and Culture encourages eligible students from all ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds, as well as disabled students, to apply. Education and Events Intern

The Pasadena Symphony and POPs is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Education and Events Intern to support its community outreach, educational programs, donor relations, and events during summer 2025. 

This internship is ideal for students who passionate about music, arts education, and nonprofit fundraising, who are looking to gain hands-on experience in the operations and administration of a leading arts and culture nonprofit in Los Angeles County. The intern will work approximately 25 hours per week from June through September 2025. 

Education duties of the internship will include the coordination of educational programs and materials for the Pasadena Youth Symphony Orchestras (PYSO) summer camp. Responsibilities include: preparing educational materials including lesson plans and concert guides for students and teachers; providing operational coordination to support clear communication between schools, teachers, and PYSO staff for scheduling and program logistics; and collaborating with the marketing intern to support promotional strategies for our education programs. 

Development and event duties of the internship will include coordination in support of PSA's 2025 summer events, including concerts, donor receptions, and community outreach initiatives. Responsibilities include: supporting general donor communications (e.g. drafting invitations, event "know before you go" eblasts and thank you letters); and research on potential event sponsors including corporations, foundations and individuals.

The participating student will leave their 400-hour internship with skills in arts education, event coordination and donor relations, as well as robust portfolio of work including arts curriculum, event timelines, and prospect research templates.

The ideal candidate for the Education and Events Intern role will have excellent organizational and time management skills, attention to detail, strong written and spoken communication skills, and a passion for and a strong passion for music and arts education. The candidate should work well in a team environment, collaborating with staff, musicians, educators, and donors, and be capable of conducting basic research. The intern should be creative and solution-oriented with a willingness to contribute new ideas and with the adaptability to handle challenges as they arise. Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) required and experience with CRM systems (Patron Manager) a plus. Experience in public-facing roles and comfort with email and telephone communications would be helpful but are not required to execute the duties of this position. 

Additional day-to-day duties may include: 

  • Helping maintain and update donor databases and fundraising materials; 
  • Helping maintain and update Education databases, including student registration, the youth orchestra music library and PYSO alumni data
  • Assisting with tracking, evaluation, and reporting of fundraising goals and educational program outcomes;
  • Providing support for the Pasadena POPS summer season;
  • Participating in departmental and all-staff meetings
