ABOUT THIS JOB

Position Specific Summary

The Paralegal position at the City of Tucson’s City Attorney’s Prosecutor's Office is responsible for supporting misdemeanor case management through legal research, interviews, and document preparation. This position assists by gathering facts, analyzing information, and drafting legal materials.

 

Work is performed under the supervision of the Litigation Support Supervisor. This position does not supervise.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintains the attorneys’ calendars to ensure accuracy in case timelines, court actions and preparation of legal documents. Prepares standard letters to clients. Reviews pleadings for formatting, consistency, and grammatical errors to help maintain accuracy which will include information that is client privileged and confidential. Files pleadings with the proper court and associated parties. Conducts legal research and analysis on cases using legal research applications. Maintains case files both in paper format and electronically using case management software including discovery requests and review. Collects, compiles, and utilizes technical knowledge, to make recommendations to an attorney.

 

  • Conducts interviews with clients in-person, telephonically, and at the jail. Interviews civilian witnesses and law enforcement officers as needed. Acts as a liaison for the attorney with other law enforcement agencies, other counties, other city departments, and community partners. Communicates both written and verbally.

 

  • Assists in scene investigations including taking measurements at incident locations and taking photos. Reviews case discovery for legal issues. Gathers and reviews discovery for accuracy and completeness. Locates expert witnesses. Prepares files and exhibits for trial.

 

  • Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.

 

Work Environment  

Mostly office environment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Associate degree
Work Experience: Two (2) years of directly related experience

Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience in Computer applications.
