Pollinator Research Technician
Position Overview: We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented technician to assist with field and lab work for a research project focused on the behavior of managed pollinators in specialty crop systems in Oregon and Utah. This position will be approximately 60% field-based and 40% lab-based, requiring a combination of hands-on outdoor and lab-based work.
Field Work Responsibilities (60%):
- Conduct fieldwork in agricultural settings, including farms and research plots.
- Perform minor lifting and use farm equipment as needed.
- Drive a university vehicle to field sites, navigate on dirt roads, and drive safely around farms.
- Work safely around active bee houses and honey bee hives.
- Engage with farmers and farm staff to facilitate research activities.
Lab Work Responsibilities (40%):
- Process and identify pollen samples using microscopy.
- Enter and manage data related to pollen collection and bee brood curation.
- Assist in improving rearing methods for managed pollinators.
- Maintain lab organization and assist with general lab tasks.
