Marketing & Event Assistant

The New Britain Downtown District (NBDD) is seeking a student Marketing and Event Assistant to assist with promotion and tourism operations. This position works heavily over social media to promote the Downtown’s programs, events, businesses, and other ongoings, while also helping coordinate and schedule internal events. The Marketing & Event Assistant works with the Executive Director of the NBDD to plan smallto-large scale events in Downtown New Britain, as well as networking, recreational, professional development opportunities and youth activities in the Downtown New Britain. This position will be responsible for generating social media content and management of the NBDD websites. This is a part-time position with flexible hours and the option to work remote at times. Some events may require on-site presence nights and weekends. 

Examples of daily tasks: 
- Create and post social media content such as original graphics, videos, for Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIN, TikTok, and other platforms as utilized or introduced 
- Plan and coordinate ad campaigns with organic content and monitor their performance - Prepare the monthly newsletters and maintain its subscriber list 
- Design various online and print marketing items such as flyers, brochures, postcards, advertisements, and other related materials 
- Collaborate with local businesses to highlight success stories 
- Provide website maintenance with up-to-date event calendar and business directory information, photos, and act as administrator for formatting or updates needed on the back end of the website 
- Assist in the organizing and promotion of Downtown events through the research and coordination of vendors for small-to-large scale events, maintaining communication for logistical updates surrounding events and implementing vendor applications where needed, directing volunteer staff on site for the event, and creating an advertising plan to market the event 
- Implement regular programming events in the Downtown area for varying age groups, professional organizations, social organizations, residents, and businesses 
- Attend Downtown events as support staff for set-up, break down, registration, liaison services, and other tasks as needed 
- Represent the NBDD at vendor tabling opportunities for outreach purposes Qualifications 
- Creative with attention to detail for original, visually appealing marketing content 
- Strong time management and organizational skills to execute quality events 
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively work with other staff and community partners 
- copyright or journalism experience preferred 
- Ability to take initiative on projects and introduce new ideas 
- Solid understanding of basic marketing principles 
- Ability to multi-task and adhere to deadlines 
- Working knowledge of intermediate to advanced graphic design software such as Canva or photoshop 
- Working knowledge of website hosting and build out from platforms such as Squarespace, Wix, Wordpress, etc. 
- Working experience filming and editing video content for reels or short videos 
- Experience coordinating social media campaigns, or experience creating original content for promotional purposes 
- Ability to collect and analyze metrics and impressions from ad campaigns and make adjustments for successful results 
- Event planning experience for social and professional events i.e. oversee registration, display sponsorship recognition, preparing speaking arrangements, etc. 
- Must exhibit professionalism while using social media accounts under the organization’s name 
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends when events are scheduled 

The New Britain Downtown District is a Business Improvement District, which serves as a special taxation district whose goal is to drive economic development and establish a vibrant, bustling Downtown. Over the past several years, New Britain’s Downtown has undergone strong revitalization efforts that have started to change decades old perceptions. Brand new developments are under construction and await an influx of residents. As we seek to expand hospitality and retail industries, Downtown New Britain is on track to be a destination spot once again. The NBDD is run by an Executive Director and Board of Commissioners, who implement the goals defined in their Strategic Plan. The NBDD works across many partnerships such as with the City of New Britain, Downtown property owners, downtown businesses, and social services agencies. Special events, beautification programs and direct investments back into the Downtown are just a few of the items the NBDD is responsible for in its daily operations.
