School Nutrition Manager (start 8/25/2025)

Salary range: Per the SEIU Salary Scale

Work Days/Year: Full-Time, 8 hours per day, M-F when school is in session, 6:30am – 2:30pm

 

General Description:

The School Nutrition Manager is responsible for ensuring the efficient operation and service of the district’s school kitchens while adhering to state and local health and safety regulations. The kitchen manager will actively participate in and oversee food production, inventory, ordering, and recordkeeping to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations while providing appealing and nutritious meals to the students and ensuring smooth and efficient operations of the cafeteria for the ultimate health, comfort, and benefit of the student.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Participates in and manages the operation of the child nutrition program at assigned school;
  • Assigns, directs, plans, and supervises the work of cafeteria employees;
  • Assists the Director of School Nutrition with managing the scheduling of regular staff and per diem substitute staff as needed
  • Supervises and participates in the preparation and serving of meals in accordance with USDA guidelines;
  • Operates kitchen equipment such as, but not limited to ovens, slicers, steamers, stovetops, warmers, and dishwashers.
  • Oversees and participates in the cleaning of the kitchen, serving, and storage areas
  • Assumes responsibility for the security of food and supplies
  • Supervises/Helps with the storage and care of foods and supplies
  • Review incoming orders to verify the accuracy and quality of goods received. 
  • Ensure that the menus developed by the School Nutrition Director are followed without deviation
  • Reads and interprets written recipes and other written and verbal directions;
  • Attends in-services and workshops as directed;
  • Maintains confidentiality;
  • Makes menu item substitutions with the approval of the School Nutrition Director
  • Maintains accurate records including production records, temperatures of food and equipment, and inventory of equipment, food and other supplies;
  • Orders food weekly by following established procedures;
  • Prepares inventories, records and required reports;
  • Accounts for receipts and invoices;
  • Performs duties efficiently and productively;
  • Maintains positive work habits;
  • Adheres to Employee Code of Conduct as outlined in the district handbook;
  • Performs duties as assigned by immediate supervisor(s).

 

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • ServSafe and Allergy Certified.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification
  • 2 years of food service experience, preferably in a K-12 public school setting.
  • Demonstrates leadership and supervisory skills;
  • Must have computer skills, inventory skills, and record-keeping skills.
  • Must have good interpersonal skills and have the ability to work with the School Nutrition Director, kitchen staff, Principal and building staff.

 

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to perform all of the job functions requiring the following physical demands: reaching, bending, stooping, and frequently carrying up to 50 pounds. The general job requires 5% sitting, 45% walking, and 50% standing and is performed under temperature extremes and under conditions with exposure to the risk of injury.
