The South Dakota Electrical Commission seeks a motivated self-starter for the role of Program Assistant I. This position will be responsible for many important tasks within the Electrical Commission including licensing and permitting as well as other tasks correlating to those processes. This position has the possibility of assisting with other boards and commission as needed. The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

Excellent customer service and business English skills including grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Candidate should be able to work with modern office equipment, practices, and procedures. Candidate must have the ability to prioritize tasks to make sure work is completed on time and accurately with an emphasis on attention to detail.

Knowledge of:

  • licensing best practices;
  • technology and how to apply standard process to new technology; and
  • public relations and customer service.

Skill to:

  • type accurately in correspondence;
  • proofread and edit rough copy for grammar, spelling, syntax, and style;
  • organize and coordinate activities;
  • research and compile data; and
  • screening documents against set requirements, comparing them with established references, and verifying their accuracy and completeness.

Ability to:

  • communicate in a concise and effective manner;
  • read and comprehend written materials;
  • accurately record, file, and transmit information;
  • accomplish assigned professional tasks;
  • exercise tact, patience, and discretion in communicating and dealing with persons of varying backgrounds and temperaments;
  • screen calls, taking messages, greet clients, refer people;
  • sort and file documents;
  • enter information from documents into spreadsheets and databases;
  • adapt to change and initiate improvements in assigned work activities; and
  • work cooperatively with others and promote a friendly work climate in order to achieve shared goals.
