Packing House Supervisor

Provides overall direction and guidance to the operational activities of our packing house to ensure high quality and efficiency.  Provides day-to-day oversight of packing house to maximize both productivity and profitability while ensuring we exceed food safety requirements and maintain a safe working environment.  Works with sales manager and harvest manager to plan for required produce and create a schedule for harvesting and packing for the week.  Perform a variety of management, administrative as well as physical functions to ensure timely and accurate processing.  Responsible for the supervision of personnel and operations in the execution of produce receiving and packing functions.
 
Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Must be hands-on with employees in a labor-intensive environment.
  • Ability to direct and delegate work to packing house personnel.
  • Oversight of packers and machinery used to pack produce.
  • Completes shipping & receiving documents and food safety documentation in a timely, efficient manner. 
  • Must have experience as a supervisor overseeing warehousing or packing. 
  • Manages schedule of packing house personnel. 
  • Inventory control management including labeling and bar coding.
  • Works directly with the sales manager to control expenses, including shrink, labor and overhead cost.
  • Ensure the safety of all employees.
  • Experience developing appropriate policies and procedures to ensure compliance within manufacturing, operational practices, applicable laws and GAP/food safety requirements.
  • Assure local and national regulatory compliance including but not limited to OSHA, USDA, FDA, GAP, GMP.
  • Guarantees the facility and equipment are properly maintained and regularly scheduled facility and equipment programs are executed. Maintains proper housekeeping and sanitation of the facility.
  • Proficient skills in using computer-based systems, programs and reports.
  • Basic Computer skills specifically Windows, Email, Word and Excel.

 
Education & Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred OR equivalent combination of related education and/or experience may be considered.
  • Clean driving record and Valid Driver’s License required. 
  • Preferred: Willingness and ability to obtain a Class B driver’s license. 
  • Experience operating a forklift or pallet jack.     

Ability:

  • Interpersonal skills required.
  • Ability to communicate basic work directions in Spanish. 
  • Highly Preferred: Bilingual in Spanish and English to communicate with Spanish speaking workforce and English speaking management team.
  • Ability to work with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • To work nights, weekends, holidays and 60+ hours a week as business needs arise during harvesting season.
  • Ability to stand and walk for prolong periods of time.
  • Ability to lift cases of produce weighing up to 50lbs.
