External Affairs – Digital Content Internship

 

The Maryland Center for History and Culture (MCHC) is seeking an intern interested in gaining digital media experience to support communications, special events, exhibitions, and marketing. The External Affairs Intern will work closely with the Content and Communications Manager and External Affairs Officer. This in person internship position assists with a range of responsibilities to include public relations (PR) requests, video content and editing, special event promotions and highlights, and monitoring social media analytics. The selected intern will obtain valuable experience working in a nonprofit setting while being an important and valued contributor to the External Affairs team.  

 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, edit, and publish video communications for social media platforms to engage new and current audiences;
  • Prepare images and other creative digital assets, as needed;
  • Optimize video for a range of social media platforms, i.e. YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn;
  • Support and attend programs and/or events to capture video content, working in collaboration with the External Affairs team and stakeholders (some evenings may apply);
  • Assist with public relations inquiries responding by telephone and/or email;
  • Organize and maintain a photo and video library;
  • Monitor social media analytics to track performance to optimize outcomes for future posts; 
  • Reinforce the MCHC brand.

 

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Degree or pursuing an undergraduate/graduate; a degree in marketing, film, public relations, digital design, and or communications;
  • Video editing software knowledge;
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, both oral and written;
  • Research, writing/proof-reading skills, detail oriented;
  • Microsoft Office applications, Google Analytics, and Meta Business Suite
  • Ability to use a Nikon D7000 camera and/or iPhone15 with accessories (gimbal, microphones, etc.) 
  • Creative, self-motivated, flexible team player with positive attitude, ability to multi-task, and meet deadlines;
  • Must have reliable transportation.

 

About the Position:

  • Duration of internship: Summer 2025;
  • Time commitment: the selected candidate will work 12 hours per week for 12 weeks, with flexibility for additional hours dependent on course requirements. This is a primarily onsite internship, with the potential for some approved at home work;
  • The stipend amount is $1800;
  • The selected candidate must undergo a background check prior to beginning the internship; 
  • Complimentary MCHC membership, including free library and museum admission;
  • Opportunity to gain and/or enhance skills, and strengthen resume by demonstrating workforce experience.
