National Account Manager
POSITION SUMMARY:
• Phase 1 - Develop account management skills by assisting an Account Manager in managing his/her business.
• Phase 2 – Build a portfolio of clients by actively networking, researching, and prospecting for new business while managing own accounts as they develop.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Phase 1
• Develop account management skills by assisting an Account Manager in servicing his/her business, including but not limited to the development of the following:
▪ Relationships with carriers and skills in evaluating and selecting carriers.
▪ Skills in evaluating profitability and negotiating carrier rates.
▪ Skills in scheduling and servicing loads and handling fiduciary responsibilities.
▪ Skills in the use of the company’s HERO software.
Phase 2
• Build a portfolio of clients by actively networking, researching, and prospecting for new business.
• Partner with clients to understand their business, their products, and their transportation needs.
• Develop and maintain excellent relationships with primary and secondary carriers for contracted freight moves.
• Research the market and evaluate loads for potential profitability; select or reject loads, considering both profitability and the need to maintain ongoing business relationships.
• Analyze past carrier performance, schedules, cost, and availability of appropriate equipment in selecting a carrier for each load.
• Act as a liaison between clients, carriers, shippers, and receivers.
• Evaluate potential clients and authorize agreements with approved clients.
• Negotiate constantly changing carrier rates for the spot market and evaluate potential fixed-rate contracts.
• Evaluate carrier performance, including safety and insurance coverage, and make future carrier selections accordingly.
• Monitor progress of loads; maintain awareness of potential in-transit issues, such as weather problems, and take action in advance where possible to ensure timely delivery while managing costs.
• Analyze and resolve in-transit issues, considering client satisfaction and costs in determining the best solution; consult with clients and recommend solutions as appropriate.
• Ensure all fiduciary responsibilities are met and all fees and costs are documented for each load.
• Resolve client claims and receivables issues.
• Accurately enter and maintain up-to-date information in company software.
• Other duties as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
• Freight brokerage or logistics experience preferred COMPETENCIES:
