NDSS Events Intern

Position Title: NDSS Events Intern  

Location: Washington D.C. or remote  

Reports to: Misty Adams, Manager of Community Events  

Timing: May - September 2025

Commitment: 5-10 hours/week  

  

About the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS):  

Founded in 1979, the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) supports and advocates for the Down syndrome community by focusing on three key areas of programming: Resources & Support, Policy & Advocacy, and Community Engagement. Within these focus areas NDSS engages in various activities, events, and programs on topics that are critical to our community, such as federal and state advocacy and public policy, health and wellness, education, and employment. NDSS creates resources to support individuals with Down syndrome, their families, and caregivers across the lifespan and hosts awareness and engagement events throughout the country including the National Buddy Walk® Program, the Times Square Video presentation and New York City Buddy Walk®, Racing for 3.21 on World Down Syndrome Day, Run for 3.21, DC Golf Outing, the annual NDSS Gala & Auction, many Charity Racing events and others.  

 

Position Summary   

NDSS seeks a driven and enthusiastic intern to join our Events team during the months of May through September 2025. This individual will contribute to promoting and advancing the mission of NDSS by supporting the New York City Buddy Walk®, Times Square Video, DC Golf Outing, National Buddy Walk® Program, and the Charity Racing Program. The right candidate must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and willing to take on a variety of projects. The NDSS Events intern will support the Manager of Community Events and the Director of Events with maintaining spreadsheets, in-kind requests, community outreach, and more.    

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following:   

  • Assist the Manager of Community Events in monitoring and maintaining an up-to-date participant spreadsheets for different events
  • Work with Public Outreach Associate to assure communication to event participants
  • Research potential small-scale partnerships for different programs
  • Research and outreach to potential in-kind sponsors/donations, raffles, auction items, and more
  • Assist with creation of slide decks for Buddy Walk Webinars
  • Maintain spreadsheets of donations requests, sponsorships, and other information pertaining to the event
  • Community outreach to potential volunteers and participants for specific events

 

Experience and Qualifications  

  • Education or experience with the Down syndrome community preferred
  • Strong written and interpersonal communications skills
  • Must be organized, detail oriented and able to take direction
  • Must be self-motivated and possess the ability to work well both independently and within a team
  • Ability to work effectively in a virtual environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products or similar platform
  • Demonstrated commitment to the mission and goals of NDSS
  • Graphic design in Canva or similar platform is preferred
