Build Up Youth Engagement Fellow

The National Parks of New York Harbor is seeking a 26-week term intern who will help coordinate our youth crews working on historic preservation projects. The intern will assist in coordinating the ordering of project materials, developing project schedule based on condition assessments, serving as a mentor and leader for youth when out in the field, assisting youth with completing final projects, and overall completing administrative tasks related to conducting project work.

As a member of the team, the intern will support NPNH’s youth program efforts within the agency. Additionally, by implementing a comprehensive mentoring and evaluation plan, the supervisor and park staff will provide the intern with the support and guidance necessary to develop critical skills that will benefit them in their current role and future endeavors. This structured approach includes, one-on-one check ins, setting up introductions to NPS staff and leaders in other divisions, setting realistic goals with the intern, and also assigning reflective journalling –the intern will be encouraged to do this on a weekly basis with the idea that their journal can assist them in capturing ideas for their final report, and help them to articulate their growth and areas they wish to explore further.
