Calibration Technician - Weights and Measures

Position Summary & Responsibilities:

This position will remain posted until filled.                Location: Manhattan, KS

  • Test, adjust, and seal standards from private and public entities using procedures set forth by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)
  • Coordinates data entry and data extraction in the laboratory’s database.
  • Unpacks and packs customer’s articles and coordinates shipping arrangements.  Schedules appointments, handles inquiries, and provides customer service.
  • Conducts or provides technical training/guidance to the weights and measure staff, industry, and other weights and measures jurisdictions.
  • Assist the State Metrologist in other functions to maintain the laboratory’s NIST certification and assist in other areas of the weights and measures program as needed.
  • Operate a forklift and crane systems to load, unload and move customer’s articles in, out and around the laboratory. No prior certification is required to apply for this position.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree, certification or equivalent is required.  
  • Must be able to repetitively lift up to 50 pounds and 75 pounds at one time.
  • Must know how to do perform basic algebraic and statistical functions as well as convert units of measurement.
  • Physical ability to stand for long periods of time and crouch occasionally.
  • Employee must have a valid Class C (or higher) Kansas driver’s license or equivalent license from another state. Employee is responsible to maintain an acceptable driving record to safely drive state vehicles and be willing and able to fulfill all job-related travel normally associated with this position.   

Preferred Qualifications (Not required):

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Prior experience working with scales, other weighing and measuring devices is helpful.
  • A combination of education and experience may be substituted as deemed relevant by the agency.
