POSITION TITLE: Director of Finance and Administration
DEPARTMENT: Executive Team
REPORTS TO: Executive Director
POSITIONS SUPERVISED: Data, Grants, Others as Prescribed by Executive Director
STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The Nonviolence Institute seeks an experienced and creative lead administrator to work closely with the Executive Director in strengthening and supporting its administrative, finance, human resources, operations, programming, and communications systems. This individual will work to substantively strengthen the future of a vibrant organization with a critical mission. The Director of Finance and Administration is a senior-level position with primary responsibilities that include, but are not limited to, managing the day-to-day operations of the Institute, financial obligations/budgeting, implementing HR functions, insuring outcomes-based community programming, and leading the Institute’s communications programming. The Director of Finance and Administration may also be called upon to temporarily serve in a top leadership fashion at the discretion of the Executive Director.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Administration:
- Works to drive efficiency in the day-to-day administration and operations, in consultation with the Executive Director.
- Makes recommendations regarding policies and strategies to the Executive Director that align with the Institute’s six principles, 6 steps, the Beloved Community, vision and mission.
- Sets clear working goals and realizes those goals to fruition.
- Supports staff through sound HR principles and policies, including professional development, peer engagement, performance reviews, payroll, benefits, etc…
- Oversees systems and procedures that ensure operational effectiveness of all client-based programming.
- Monitors and supports vendor relationships to guarantee smooth operational functions.
- Ensures that enacted systems, policies and procedures are relevant to the goals and outcomes desired for mission focus success.
- Maintains systems and attention for effective and impactful communications – to both internal and external stakeholders.
- Serves as communication link between ED and staff in order that internal communications (about policies, direction, decisions, etc.) are followed and implemented with appropriate collaboration and deliberateness.
- Helps to foster an atmosphere of harmony, respect, and productivity within the Institute.
- Introduces office systems and procedures designed to strengthen the agency and ensure efficient administrative workflows.
- Ensures that appropriate policies and procedures are in place and followed to reduce risk to the organization.
- Responsible for the development of strategic initiatives and ensures organizational wide support for its implementation.
- Acts as administrative lead when designated by Executive Director.
Financial Focus:
- Leads and commits to the organization’s overall financial strategy.
- Develops the organization’s annual budget, with input from stakeholders, and presents the budget to Executive Director, Executive Team and Board of Directors.
- Ensures all audit material and audit requirements are met in a timely and efficient manner.
- Provides accurate and timely financial reports.
- Oversees finance and bookkeeping activities (to include inside staff and outside vendors).
Program Development, Grants, and Operations:
- Oversees staff and/or outside contractor(s) and volunteers to:
- Ensure all funding reports are accurate and submitted on time to funders.
- Collaborate with the Development team on grant writing, compliance and reporting.
- Recommend partnerships or collaborations designed to enhance the Institute’s programs, and from time to time, act as a project manager.
- Promote management activities assigned to inside staff and/or outside vendor(s).

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- At least 3 years of demonstrated organizational leadership experience in the nonprofit sector.
- Excellent and demonstrable interpersonal and relationship leadership skills.
- Experience with strategic and operational planning, budget and financial management, and human resources.
- Experience with grant writing and grant implementation.
- Strong supervision and team building skills, including direct supervision experience.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Office 365, including Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Demonstrated excellent problem-solving skills, ability to look at each problem individually and create solutions for those problems.
- Demonstrated ability to form and manage partnerships and work collaboratively with diverse individuals and organizations.
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
- Commitment to the Institute’s mission, vision, and guiding principles.
- Commitment to the study and practice of nonviolence.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation in order to travel to and from meetings, trainings, or campus and community locations as required.
- Be available occasionally during nontraditional working hours, including nights and weekends.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree.
- Fundraising within the nonprofit sector.
- Experience working in urban communities; underserved communities.
- Ability to speak a language in addition to English.

POSITION STATUS: This is a full-time position with benefits, some nights and weekends required.
SALARY: Hiring salary $85,000 to $95,000 commensurate with education and experience.
