HSEN  2 - Program Dates: Session II: Saturday, July 19- Saturday, August 2, 2025


 

HSEN Training - Monday June 23 - Friday June 27, 2025.  Time: TBD 


 

Applicants must be available to work both High School Sessions and attend in-person training during the training week. 


 

RAs are required to work weekends and evenings during the sessions.


 

Salary: $1,850 stipend per session, double room occupancy and two meals per day during program dates

          $22.00/hour during assigned training week.

 

Position Description:

It takes a talented, dedicated, and responsible young adult to become a successful B-BAY Residential Assistant (RA).  The challenges of the position are numerous, but very rewarding.  RAs gain valuable experience in organizational skills, teamwork, leadership skills. Many RAs form long-lasting friendships during their tenure, both with students, staff and faculty.

Each year, Berkeley Business Academy for Youth seeks highly motivated, mature, fun-loving college students to serve as resident assistants in the middle and high school B-BAY programs. The Resident Assistant will reside in the dorms (double occupancy room) and is responsible, with the other residence hall staff for fostering a cooperative, safe and considerate community environment which contributes to the success of each B-BAY student resident. Resident Assistants are to provide information, direction, guidance, friendship, support, and safety to B-BAY participants and staff.

Responsibilities include:

  • Attend in person and actively participate in all mandatory training sessions during the assigned training week .
  • Reside and sleep in the residence hall with students throughout the entire session.
  • Be knowledgeable about the B-BAY program and other staff roles. Function as a resource of information for students
  • Attend daily staff meetings with the Program Manager and Teaching Assistants staff.
  • Adhere to University of California Minors on Campus rules (see training packet), i.e. no outside guests in resident hall
  • Supervise Students during in-dorm hours, chaperone weekend excursions with students, and plan evening activities.
  • Enforce rules to maintain the safety of program attendees. Learn all residence hall policies and procedures including COVID-19 protocols.
  • Foster a positive learning community experience for program attendees.
  • Follow established procedures for use of resident hall keys and fobs.
  • Assist with daily operational procedures: check-ins, check-outs, damage assessment, room changes, lock-outs, identifying and reporting maintenance and safety concerns, etc.
  • Know residents well enough to know when a resident is having trouble.
  • Mediate roommate conflicts as necessary and inform B-BAY Program Manager and Director of issues that arise.
  • Keep B-BAY student residents informed of important dates and activities by maintaining a neat, up-to-date bulletin board
  • Immediately respond to emergency and crisis situations as covered in training, reporting occurrences to the B-BAY   Program Manager/Director or first available senior staff member.  Report suspected child abuse or neglect to the Program Manager or to UCPD at 510-642-6760.
  • Treat minors with respect at all times, regardless of their race, color, national origin, ancestry, religion, disability, medical condition, sex, gender identity, or sexual orientation
  • Gather facts and document all incidents impacting the smooth operation of the residence hall/life program, including reporting all policy violations to the B-BAY Program Manager/Director
  • Conduct a College Awareness Workshop, including writing a personal statement, completing college applications, etc.
  • Complete program internship journal and evaluation reports daily
  • Perform other administrative tasks as requested by the Program Manager/Director
  • All check out procedures are followed at the close of the program, ( ie residents remove all trash from rooms prior to checking out and receiving their deposit, etc..)

 

Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age or 18-21 years on or before June 1, 2024
  • Available to work without absences for the duration of the high school summer programs.
  • Must hold at least college sophomore status, having completed 30 hours or more. (Preferred: have lived in a residence hall setting for at least one academic year.
  • Must be available for employment for a minimum of 3 weeks and a maximum of 7 weeks. Each session is 2 weeks long plus 1 week of training. Reside and sleep in the dorms for the entire session in which you are hired.
  • Undergraduate/Graduate student preferred
  • Experience working with middle and high school students
  • Strong work ethic, dependable and work well as a team member
  • Responsible, flexible, responsive in emergencies, and adaptable to changes.
