Position: Berkeley Business Academy For Youth Summer Teaching Assistant

MSEN - Program Dates: Monday, June 9 – Friday, June 20, 2025
HSEN 1- Program Dates: Session I: Saturday, July 5 – Saturday, July 19, 2025
HSEN 2 - Program Dates: Session II: Saturday, July 19- Saturday, August 2, 2025
Time: 8:00 AM - 3:30 PM. May require staying until 4:00 pm on some days
Training Dates:
MSEN- Monday June 2 - Friday June 6, 2025. Time: TBD
HSEN- Monday June 23 - Friday June 27, 2025. Time: TBD
Applicants must be available to work the Middle School Program (MSEN) and/or two High School Program sessions (HSEN 1 & 2). Applicants must attend training sessions associated with the programs they are working.
Location: Berkeley Haas School of Business
Salary: $22/hour
Position Description:
The Berkeley Business Academy for Youth has an opening for university students interested in entrepreneurship, critical thinking, and youth development to fill the role of Teaching Assistant. Successful applicants will have a demonstrated ability to work effectively with middle and high school students, employ collaborative and/or project-based learning strategies, and work in teams. Teaching Assistants will lead TA chat discussions, prepare students for professors’ lectures, assist students during team time and engage them with exciting hands-on activities that use collaborative, experiential learning techniques and teamwork. The 2025 program will be 100% in person.
BBAY does not provide room and board for Teaching assistants. TAs are responsible for their own accommodations or commute to the Berkeley Campus.
Responsibilities Include:
● Serve as a representative of the Institute for Business and Social Impact at Berkeley Haas and role model to Berkeley Business Academy for Youth participants.
● Participate in an in-person pre-program staff training and student/parent orientation at BerkeleyHaas campus.
● Adhere to University of California CANRA and Minors on Campus rules, complete virtual Minors on Campus training, and pass UCPD fingerprinting/background check.
● Collaborate with other TAs to implement B-BAY curriculum,
● Introduce new material to students by teaching TA chats, and reinforce the lessons taught by faculty and guest speakers.
● Assist students to master the material taught.
● Guide and advise assigned B-BAY student teams towards completing final deliverable.
● Motivate and engage students in classroom discussions.
● Assist students with creating a website, Executive Summary and/or business plan –review and provide feedback for student assignments.
● Assist faculty, guest speakers, TA lead and office staff with program logistics, and other activity-related tasks.
● Meet daily with Program Manager and TA Lead to prepare for class/plan daily activities and recap each day.
● Complete program internship journal and evaluation reports daily
● Prepare daily newsletter content.
● Take pictures of students while in the class discussions using the BBAY phone and (for BBAY/Newsletter purpose only)
● Perform additional duties as determined by Program Manager, TA lead or Director
● Attend all required trainings, orientations program sessions, and dates
Qualifications:
● Undergraduate student working toward a degree in Business Administration, Economics, or related field (preferred)
● Ability to teach business courses that are academically rigorous to middle and high school students at an age-appropriate level demonstrated through teaching or tutoring experience.
● Ideal candidate should have excellent oral and written communication skills.
● Experience utilizing Google Drive, Zoom, Canva, Microsoft office, Excel.
● Ability to establish good relationships and work with a range of diverse people (youth, faculty, parents. and program staff)
● Ability to be creative, flexible, responsible, reliable, authoritative, yet fair and fun.
● Commitment to young people and an understanding of the factors affecting their lives.
● Commitment to summer work schedule (NO ABSENCES During employment)
● Ability to carry out the responsibilities listed above.
