Summer Meals Support Specialist

 Summer AmeriCorps members will work throughout Chicago and Cook County to address hunger by distributing meals to children in need. Members will serve Monday through Friday alongside the Youth Programs Team to ensure efficient and meaningful meal delivery. Throughout the term, members will attend various professional development workshops and networking events.

SERVICE ACTIVITIES

∙ Support community outreach at summer meal sites.

∙ Assist with Summer Food trainings and/or other Summer Food activities as needed.

∙ Support the distribution of meals throughout Cook County, including driving a sprinter van to meal sites.

∙ Ensure that all Lunch Bus meal distributions are tracked and documented.

∙ Work as part of a cross-functional team that is developing and implementing strategies to strengthen communities and address the root causes of hunger.

∙ Participate in program evaluation through an ongoing group project, and present findings of the group project to key stakeholders at the end of the AmeriCorps term.

COMMUNITY NEED ADDRESSED

As the food bank for Cook County, the Food Depository distributes food through a network of over 800 community-based partnerships. Residents turn to the Food Depository’s network for support each year or experience food insecurity, having limited or inconsistent access to a variety of quality, nutritious food. These individuals also face a variety of interrelated challenges related to poverty, unemployment and health disparities. The Food Depository offers a variety of programs and services to partners throughout Chicago and suburban Cook County to provide food for hungry people while striving to end hunger in the community.
