Paid Student Intern (Housing)
The Chicago Department of Housing is currently hiring paid student interns for the 2024-2025 academic year. The DOH internship is a 12-month program housed in DOH Commissioner’s Office- Policy, Research, and Community Engagement Division. The program provides undergraduate and graduate students with experience working in local government and the public sector. Students are expected to meet a 15-20 hours per week in office requirement and are compensated at $20/hour.
DOH student interns are placed across DOH bureaus based on their interests and education and professional experience. Students can expect to work on a number of housing issues and projects, including:
- Policy, Research, and Legislative affairs
- Multi-family housing finance and development
- Affordable housing asset management
- Homeownership programs and preservation efforts
- Community development and neighborhood revitalization
- Construction services and long-term compliance
All student interns will dedicate approximately 25% of their time to DOH’s community engagement and racial equity work. This includes attending community events, interacting with residents and elected officials on behalf of the Department, and participating in the internship program’s professional development activities, such as field trips and speaker series sessions.
The application is open to all undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in an accredited university, college, or law school. Applications will be accepted until April 11 at 11:59pm. Please visit https://chi.gov/DOHJobs. to learn more about this opportunity and submit an application.
