Project Engineer
Goebel Construction Inc. is currently seeking to fulfill its entry-level Project Engineer (PE) position for our Bay Area construction projects and Government facilities. Working in strong collaboration with Project Managers, the PE supports field operations on project sites, monitors blueprints, estimations, material procurement, and occasionally personnel. A PE plays a key support role in project execution and supports construction operations by offering guidance, assisting with problem-solving, team coordination, and detailed documentation—helping to ensure the successful completion of each phase of the project.
The function of a Project Engineer is to manage and support the field operations on projects. You will report to the Project Manager, with a primary responsibility of ensuring the foreman and crew have the necessary materials, equipment, and information to complete the job efficiently. As an extension of the Project Manager, the Project Engineer is ultimately responsible for understanding and accomplishing the customer’s goals while protecting and promoting the interests of the company in all matters. This role requires strong communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills to support smooth project execution from start to finish.
Responsibilities
A Project Engineer’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Estimating:
- Assisting Project Manager in review of contracts and proposals.
- Conduct site visits/job walks to evaluate existing conditions and gain a clear understanding of the project scope and potential challenges.
- Review specifications and scope of work.
- Prepare quantity takeoffs and determine project specifications by studying product design, client requirements, performance standards, and technical studies to understand (prepare) cost estimates.
Purchasing:
- Manage project-specific materials and equipment purchases including sourcing, maintaining vendor relations, ordering, and tracking deliveries, and receiving and processing invoices.
- Prepare and issue purchasing documents (i.e.: Subcontracts, Purchasing Orders, Service Agreements) with the Project Manager.

Assist with the preparation of a cost sheet for each project to maintain purchasing control.
Project Management:
- Liaison between the project manager, field crew, subcontractors and vendors involved in a project.
- Schedule preparation and pre-planning. Determines project schedule by studying project plan and specifications; calculating time requirements; sequencing project elements.
- Develop project-specific Safety Programs in coordination with Safety Manager and Project Manager.
- The primary technical point of contact for the field crew, subcontractor and vendors.
- Assist and support Project Manager by attending project meetings with General Contractor, Owner, Architect, and others.
- Prepares project status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends, recommending actions.
- Assist in project closeout by ensuring the project is 100% complete and providing close-out information to the client. with accounting.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- College degree in construction management or relevant field. Years of experience in a similar or related position will be considered in lieu of degree.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of the construction field. Prior experience in construction or relative field preferred.
- Intermediate to advanced skill level in Microsoft Office products including Excel and Outlook.
- Ability to learn company specific software as needed or required.
- Proven track record working with people, teams, and projects.
- Ability to work independently, within a team, and in a diverse workforce.
- Ability and willingness to travel to Richmond, CA, as well as various job sites across the Bay Area and nearby regions as needed
- Ability to travel as needed.
- Ability to pass background check and drug test (includes testing for use of marijuana)

- Physical requirements included frequent standing, walking, sitting, lifting up to 20 pounds, and being able to work at a computer or desk for long periods of time.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequent standing, walking, sitting as well as lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds.
- Must be able to work at computer or desk area for extended periods of time
- Must be able to work in both office and field environments, including exposure to outdoor conditions and wearing required PPE.
Schedule:
- Standard schedule is 5/8, with the possibility of switching to 4/10 depending on project needs.
- Overtime and weekends may be required as needed.
