Human Resources Intern

The Human Resources (HR) Intern is responsible for a posting and managing open requisitions, working with hiring managers to assist with candidate screening and selection, assisting in the timely and accurate processing of new hire and employee changes, and overseeing benefits enrollment for the home office and community locations in an efficient, accurate and confidential manner. 

Essential Job Functions

  • Learn PRG’s recruitment, screening, and selection process and support the Sr. HR Generalist by:
    • Managing the applicant tracking system including the posting and management of job requisitions.
    • Utilizing Canva to design and send internally facing Unlock Your Potential job posting announcement on a biweekly basis.
    • Delivering a superior candidate experience by building relationships with candidates and ensuring excellent communication with candidates as they go through the hiring process.
    • Assisting with scheduling phone screens and interviews for qualified candidates and confirming interviews with candidates for high-priority openings.
    • Providing the Sr. Hr Generalist with weekly status updates on the progress of openings.
    • Facilitating the background and drug screening process.
    • Sending candidate approval packages to the Sr. HR Generalist for review and approval.
  • Learn how to process new hires within ADP and support the Compensation and Benefits Specialist by:
    • Overseeing the I-9 and E Verify processes to ensure timely completion and compliance; provide assistance and troubleshooting to supervisors required to complete these processes.
    • Reviewing and processing new hire paperwork while ensuring accurate completion of employee records in the human resources information system (HRIS) and electronic employee file.
    • Ensuring all employees complete their benefit enrollments in order to meet their eligibility dates.
    • Maintaining tracking of the employee referral program and years of service program, collaborating with the Payroll Manager to ensure payouts.
    • Assisting in auditing HR files to ensure compliance, particularly with the EPA certification tracker.
  • Work with Human Resources Department on the following projects and initiatives:
    • Evaluation of stay interview items and automation of process, to ensure efficiency, boost survey completion, and increase new hire engagement.
  • Gain exposure to major HR processes and participate in 2025 HR strategy planning.
  • Shadow the Sr. HR Generalist in partnering with internal teams and hiring managers to identify talent needs, develop a strategy to assist with recruitment and selection efforts, and optimize the Indeed monthly sponsorship budget.
  • Assists the Compensation and Benefits Specialist in reviewing employee change requests and performing the associated necessary actions within the ADP, the Company’s Human Resources Information System (HRIS).
  • Attend the Company’s 401(k) and Safety Committee meetings and take meeting minutes.
  • Attend job fairs, networking, and industry events to build a candidate pipeline as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Previous internship within HR or Payroll strongly preferred.
  • Organizational skills to enable effective management of multiple, shifting priorities.
  • Ability to see a project through to completion.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to perform in a busy, changing, multi-tasking work environment.
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail and adhere to strict deadlines .
  • Ability to maintain a high-level of confidentiality.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Word; Experience with an HRIS or Canva preferred.
  • High School diploma required; Pursuing a Bachelor's/Master’s degree in HR Management, I/O Psychology, Organizational Development, Business Management, or Psychology preferred.
