Graphic Design Intern
The Grand Rapids Symphony is looking for a fun, dog-loving individual from June to August to join the Marketing Team! This position will work to identify and participate in current design trends. New ideas and creative involvement are HIGHLY encouraged while working alongside the Marketing Intern on team projects! In addition to handling Figaro through creating Figgy-related social media content, supporting his concert debuts, and managing his office breaks, both outside and playtime. Figgy’s attitude knows best; we work hard but also play hard!
Key Responsibilities
With the Marketing Intern:
- Figgy wrangler
- Creates and updates the hall and program slides as well as our digital program book
- Edits the GRS website
- Scouts and places GRS posters within the community and manages them timely
- Organizes and labels GRS content from multiple sources
With Brand Manager and/or Independently:
- Supports the Brand Manager in building the 2025/2026 branding and signage
- Creates layouts, templates, and assists that align with brand guidelines
- Assist in creating digital and print designs for marketing campaigns, social media, websites, brochures, posters, etc.
- Completes brand and design research
- Attends and provides assistance at concerts and events
- Perform other duties as assigned
An Ideal Candidate Will Be:
- A dog lover
- Able to demonstrate organization and an ability to work independently
- Enthusiastic for design and a desire to learn and grow in the field
- Comfortable developing relationships and interacting with a variety of patrons in a positive, courteous, patient, and diplomatic manner
- Have an interest in symphonic music and/or the arts (not required, but a plus!)
Skills and Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing or recently graduated with a degree in Graphic Design, Visual Arts, or a related field. In lieu of education, candidates with direct professional experience of 1-2 years are encouraged to apply.
- Driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with social media (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, etc.)
- Basic understanding of design principles (color theory, typography, layout, etc.)
- Basic understanding of print production and digital file processes
- Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.) and Word Products. Knowledge of other design tools (such as adobe express and canva) is a plus
