$66,373- $99,570 per year

The Position

The Tourism & Economic Vitality Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing initiatives that promote economic growth, business attraction, and tourism within the community. This role involves fostering relationships with local businesses, investors, and stakeholders, conducting research to identify opportunities for economic expansion, and creating marketing strategies to enhance tourism. The coordinator will also support policy development, grant applications, and event planning to drive community engagement and sustainable development. Excellent written and oral communication skills along with thorough research and analytical skills will be necessary for much of the duties of this classification. This position supervises Visitor’s Center Staff, Volunteers and operations.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Economic Development, Market Economics, or related field. Five years of progressive experience in economic development (either municipal or private) including economic analysis and data collection. One year of experience with data analysis and internet research. Or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required skills and abilities for the position.

Certifications & Licenses: Must possess, or be able to obtain by the time of hire, a valid Arizona driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record. IEDC Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) preferred. Arizona Association for Economic Development (AAED), AZED Pro or ability to obtain certification within two years of hiring.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Initiate, develop, manage and maintain programs that encourage retention and expansion of existing businesses and industries within the Town. 
  • Develop and maintain a retention program that includes face-to-face visits, surveying of business needs, acting as business liaison between company and Town departments, and following up on needs. 
  • Travel in and around Payson on a frequent basis to meet with business owners and others as required. 
  • Demonstrate self-motivation by independently identifying, planning, and executing tasks with minimal direction, adapting to changing goals and desired outcomes while proactively seeking opportunities for improvement and innovation. 
  • Act as liaison for regional and local organizations/associations. 
  • Assist with the department’s web based, print and social media marketing and advertising programs. 
  • Collect data and maintains available land sites and property databases. 
  • Ensure the Town is successful in efforts related to developing and maintaining strong working relationships with the Chamber of Commerce, developers, corporate leaders, business owners, public school officials, and other regional and state economic development agencies and citizens. 
  • Assist in leading and providing ongoing support to the Economic Development Advisory Consortium (EDAC) to advance their mission and goals. 
  • Collaborate with the Grants Coordinator and other Town staff to research, apply for, and administer grant opportunities that help implement department goals, projects, and programs 
  • Establish processes, procedures, and programs, with applicable long and short range goals, to execute economic development and workforce development initiatives and activities 
  • Research and analysis of social, economic and other data for planning purposes and effectively communicate to staff, boards, commissions, councils, community stakeholders, and the general public via oral and written reports and recommendations 
  • Propose budget for Economic Development and Tourism programs 
  • Administer and update the Greater Payson Area Economic Development Strategic Plan in a collaborative effort with community stakeholders 
  • Provide excellent customer service by serving as one of the Town’s first point of contact for economic development inquiries
  • Identify and secure appropriate companies looking to relocate to Payson. Assist potential new businesses in connecting companies/businesses with developers, contractors, financial institutions, attorneys, etc. Help with site analysis, including demographic, tax, fee, development, and related information, including available incentives and programs. Provide the necessary tools for relocation/development in Payson. 
  • Assists in representing Economic Development and Tourism for the Community Development Department by attending meetings. 
  • Develop strategies to promote tourism products, programs, and events 
  • Collaboratively creates, develops, and executes a broad range of innovative strategies and tactics to promote tourism throughout the state, and instill community pride; educates residents and visitors regarding all available assets and resources. 
  • Develop and implement integrated local, regional, and national marketing promotions to encourage tourism; directs all avenues of tourism advertising, including but not limited to social media, print, and digital mediums; analyzes and capitalizes on Google Analytics, ad words, geo-fencing, and other digital tools. 
  • Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service
